1. راخِ لها في السّبَبِ

    وارمِ عِراصَ السَبْسَبِ

    Let it rest in the reason

    And cast off the saddle of firmness

  2. وامخِضْ بها الدهرَ لكي

    تُعطيك زُبْدَ الحلَبِ

    And bear with it time so that

    It gives you the cream of milk

  3. ولا يُغرَّنْك المُنى

    ببرقِ وعدٍ خُلَّبِ

    And do not be fooled by wishes

    With the lightning of a fickle promise

  4. فالعيشُ في العِيس وقد

    أنجبَ حادي النُجُبِ

    For living is in poverty and it has

    Given birth to the guide of honor

  5. فقرِّبِ المَطلَبَ با

    لتقريبِ أو بالخَبَبِ

    So bring near the goal either

    By nearness or deceit

  6. واستمطِ ليلاً أدهَماً

    الى صباحٍ أشهبِ

    And spend a dark night

    To a pale morning

  7. قد وُجِدَ النبعُ فلِمْ

    خيّبْتَ عند الغرَبِ

    The spring has been found so why

    Have you been disappointed at dusk

  8. ما أنجبَ الصّقرُ الذي

    يرضى بحظِّ الخرِبِ

    What the eagle has given birth to

    Who is content with the share of ruins

  9. إن كنتَ تبغي وطَناً

    من العُلى فاغترِبِ

    If you seek a homeland

    Of glory then be a stranger

  10. فالسُمرُ في غاباتِها

    معدودةٌ في القصَبِ

    For the nightingales in its forests

    Are few in the reeds

  11. والمرءُ لا يذهبُ ثو

    بُ المجدِ ما يذهبِ

    And man's glory does not decrease

    As his glory decreases

  12. والحمدُ حظّ حُوَّلٍ

    من الرجال قُلَّبِ

    And praise is the lot of one

    Who men have changed

  13. والشمسُ لا ترقَبُ في ال

    مَطلَعِ ما لم تغرُبِ

    And the sun does not care where

    It rises or sets

  14. عليكَ أن تسعى وما

    عليك نُجْعُ المطْلَبِ

    It is upon you to strive and not

    Upon you the produce of the goal

  15. فكن لرَحْلِ الناقةِ ال

    كوماءِ مثلَ القتَبِ

    So be to the camel saddle

    Like the sand hill to the armpit

  16. واضربْ بصدرِ المشرقِ ال

    مُشرِقِ رَدفَ المغربِ

    And strike the shining orient

    The rear of the setting sun

  17. وإن مرَرْتَ بالخي

    امِ المشرفاتِ الطُنُبِ

    And if you pass by the purely

    White domed tents

  18. والحيُّ من سنبس أر

    بابِ النُهى والحسَبِ

    And the alive from the wheat of the

    Men of abstinence and restraint

  19. والمعهَدُ المعهودُ من

    حالِ الرِضا والغضَبِ

    And the demeanor which is known for

    The state of content and anger

  20. فاربَعْ هناك إنّهُ

    مربَعُ تاجِ العرَبِ

    Then stop there for it is

    The square of the crown of the Arabs

  21. حامي الذِمارِ حاملُ ال

    عبءِ الثقيلِ المُتعَبِ

    Protector of the fray, bearer of

    The heavy tiring burden

  22. ذو مَنكَبٍ من علِقتْ

    هُ كفَّه لم يُنكَبِ

    With a shoulder which when

    His palm has clung, does not bend

  23. أيفْتِكُ في أعدائِه

    بمِنْسَرٍ ومِخْلَبِ

    Will you help me against my enemies

    With a spear and claws

  24. بالأسمرِ العسّالِ أو

    بالأبيضِ المُشطَّبِ

    With the brown muscular or

    The white well-groomed

  25. فيا معالي زِدْ عُلا

    تبقى ممرَّ الحِقَبِ

    So oh glorities, increase

    Sublimity, you remain the passage of time

  26. واستَمعِ الشعرَ الذي

    ألفاظُهُ كالشُهُبِ

    And listen to poetry

    Whose words are like meteors

  27. وما خلطتَ الدرّ في

    لفظي بالمُخشَلِبِ

    And you have not mixed pearls

    In my words with tinsel

  28. قمتُ به أخطَبُ بي

    نَ الصِّيدِ أهلِ الخُطَبِ

    I have come to address between

    The hunters the people of sermons

  29. عن شكرِ نجم الدين وال

    قاضي الرشيدِ الأنْجَبِ

    Thanking the bright star and the judge

    The most noble and generous

  30. ولم أقُلْهُ سبباً

    لطائلٍ من نشَبِ

    And I have not said it

    For any useless reason or bribe

  31. فإنني أقنعُ بال

    بِشْرِ وبالترَحُّبِ

    For I am content with

    Benevolence and friendship

  32. تأبى لي الهمّةُ أن

    أجعلَ شِعْري مكسَبي

    My spirit refuses

    To make my poetry my livelihood
