1. عزمي وحزمي والحسامُ الماضي

    تكفّلوا بصادِقِ الإيماضِ

    My resolve, my determination, and my unsheathed sword

    Have guaranteed the fulfillment of my true promise

  2. إن أقعدَتْ في نكبةٍ إنهاضي

    فكم مَطارٍ وكمِ انقضاضِ

    If adversity keeps me seated, my rise

    So many soaring and plummeting cycles

  3. لي بجناح ليس بالمُنهاضِ

    وقد رأى مني الزمانُ الماضي

    I have a wing that does not falter

    And the past has seen my candlelight

  4. شماسَةً أعيَتْ على الرُّوّاضِ

    غيريَ مَنْ يسخطُ وهْو راضي

    Dazzling the meadows to exhaustion

    Another may show anger while content

  5. يشغَلُه المَطْلُ عن التقاضي

    أمَا أمَضّ الحارثَ المُضاضي

    Procrastination distracts him from collection

    But I carried on, an insistent seeker

  6. برْضٌ أبَتْهُ همّةُ البرّاضِ

    فواصَلا الطِّوالَ بالعِراضِ

    A firm resolve the meadows’ dwellers rejected

    So they continued with unbroken succession

  7. يسْرونَ أنقاضاً على أنقاضِ

    لا بدّ للزُبدِ من امتخاضِ

    Adding ruins upon ruins

    The scum must eventually clear

  8. وإنما الأجسامُ للأعراضِ

    ما أقر الليوثَ في الغِياضِ

    While bodies are for intentions

    No lions settled in the thickets

  9. أينَ القرومُ من بني مِخاضِ

    عزّ السّهامِ وُصلةُ الأغراضِ

    Where are the brave ones from Mikhāsh’s sons?

    The might of arrows and bonded resolves

  10. لو لم يُصِبْها حادثُ الإنباضِ

    كم جاءَ إبرامٌ من انتِفاضِ

    Had misfortune’s strike not caused them to disband

    How much conclusion came from uprising

  11. وشاعَ ما قد كان ذا اعتراضِ

    خفِّفْ فإني لستُ ذا انخفاضِ

    And how much spread that once met objection

    Lighten up, for I am no lowly being

  12. غازَلْتُ غُرَّ الأعيُنِ المِراضِ

    من أسودٍ يلمعُ في بياضِ

    I flirted with the tender, aching eyes

    Of a black beauty shining in whiteness

  13. أما رأيتَ مونِقَ الرّياضِ

    عقدْتُ منه لأبي الفيّاضِ

    Have you not seen Munayqa’s meadows

    From it I strung for Abul Fayyādh

  14. المالك المالِك عن تراضِ

    رِقَّ مريض غيرِ ذي انقِراضِ

    The owner, the possessor without objection

    A sick one recovered without relapse

  15. يخطِرُ في ردائه الفَضْفاضِ

    يكرَعُ في سَلْسالِه الرّضْراضِ

    Wandering in his flowing robe

    Rattling in his jingling chains

  16. يعلو مَطا جوادِه المُرتاضِ

    يجمعُ بين الروضِ والحِياضِ

    Rising high on his prancing steed

    Combining garden and pond

  17. أكرم له من مبرم نقّاضِ

    ذي نظر ثَبْتٍ وذي تَغاضي

    More generous to him than a bargaining lender

    Of steady insight and tolerance

  18. حاسِمِ ما بالدّهرِ من أمراضِ

    على الليالي منه حين قاضِ

    Vanquishing the epochs’ afflictions

    In its nights when time had passed

  19. قارَضَني وأيّما قِراضِ

    فاعْتَضْتُ منه أحسنَ اعْتياضِ

    He tested me, and what a test

    So I took the best precautions from him

  20. كم صِبْغُ همٍّ بسناهُ ماضِ

    نَضا عليه سيفَ حدٍّ ماضِ

    Many a sorrow dyed with its years passing

    He poured on it a sharpened sword’s edge

  21. فقابلَ الإحلاءَ بالإحْماضِ

    كما جمعْتَ شفرَتَيْ مِقراضِ

    And met favor with disfavor

    As you brought together the twin shears

  22. تجانُسٌ يصدُرُ عن نِقاضِ

    فقل لباغي جودِه الفيّاضِ

    A concord born of objection

    Tell the unjust, his generosity spent

  23. اقْعُدْ فقد جاءك ذا ارتِكاضِ

    وليس محتاجاً الى حضّاضِ

    “Sit, for one risen against you has come

    Needing no pleading for forgiveness”

  24. فريضةٌ زادت على الفرّاضِ

    بانَ بها الواني من الرُّكّاضِ

    An extra duty beyond the lawful

    Made evident by the jeweler’s polishing

  25. ترمي الأعادي منه بالعِراضِ

    لنزعِ بابِ الأزمةِ العضّاضِ

    Casting foes with intention

    To remove the door of the biting crisis

  26. يرمي بذي الرّيشِ وبالمِعراضِ

    يجدك بطْشاً كل ذي انتهاضِ

    Casting the feathered and the lances

    You’ll find in me a might no riser can match

  27. يحذَرُ عزماً كلَّ ذي انتفاضِ

    وإذا العدى ناراً على ارتِماضِ

    Fearing resolve no dissenter can shake

    And if enmity flames with insistence

  28. صيّرهُم من جملةِ الأمراضِ

    لا عادَ ما أبرم لانتقاضِ

    Make them of the class of maladies

    No conclusion ever undone

  29. ولا انبساطَ منه لانقباضِ

    آمينَ في مستقبلٍ كماضِ

    Nor expansion and contraction ceased

    Amen - in a future like the past
