لك الله ما أزكَى وأشرفَ همَّةً

وأكرمَ نفساً في المكارمِ راغبه

Yours is the most virtuous and noble ambition,

The most generous soul seeking generosity.

تُسمَّى عطايا الشعرِ جائزةً له

وأنتَ تسميها بفضلك واجبه

You call the gifts of poetry his prize,

While through your grace you call them his due.
