عجبت لأنكادِ الزمان وإن طمتْ
ولا عجبٌ في فكرة تتولج
I marvel at Time’s afflictions, however high they surge;
yet there is no wonder in a thought that penetrates deeply.
أجاوِر من أهوى ولا وصلَ بيننا
كأني ومن أهواهُ ثغرٌ مفلج
I live beside the one I love, yet no union joins us—
as though my beloved and I were two of my front teeth, with a gap between them.
