O my master, your virtues are like
A gleam of flowers or a waft of fragrance
And a companionship whose merits we did not
Contemplate except we related the story of excellence over a lifetime
From every deep ode you are its frequenter
You reveal to people all kinds of pearls
And every horizon and abode you are its rising
You illuminate whatever you wish of sun and moon
But I complain of a state my thoughts night in
On worries or my eyelids on wakefulness
You embarrassed me with an ode whose purpose was
If people heard of my poverty and my distress
Neither wealth of money in my palms judging
Truly nor wealth of poetry in my mind
So divert it from me to the capable and remain upon
What is between us from the purity of affection and be content
