ليهن حما الشهباء قاضٍ حوت به
كمالاً على تفضيله اتفق النص
May Aleppo’s precinct rejoice in a judge through whom it has embraced perfection;
authoritative testimony is unanimous in proclaiming his preeminence.
فلو مثلت كتب النحاة بنعته
لما جازَ أن يجرِي على نعتِه القصص
For if the grammarians’ books used his attributes as their examples,
no tale could ever follow the full course of his description.
