متحاربان كما أرى

هاتيك تمنعك الهدوّ

وأنتَ تمنعها الكرى

Those forbid you tranquility

While you forbid them sleep

وأنا الذي قاسيتُ بي

نكما العذاب الأكبرا

And I who have suffered in me

The harshest of torment from you both

كفَّا المدامع والأسى

فلقد كفى ما قد جرى

Stay the tears and sorrow

For enough has passed

لا آخذَ الرحمن من

ملك الحشا فتجبرا

I will not take mercy from

The King of cruelty to force it

قابلت رونقَ خدِّه

فصبغت دمعي أحمرا

I met the blush of his cheek

So my tears dyed red

يا ناعس الأجفان قد

حكم الهوى أن أسهرا

O sleepy eyes, passion

Has ruled that I stay awake

ما كانَ أريح عاشقاً

لو أن وصلكَ يُشترى

No lover found comfort
