فقدت أخلاّئي الذين سألتهم

دوام الوفا إنَّ الوفاء قليل

I have lost my dearest friends, from whom I sought

lasting faithfulness—for faithfulness is rare.

وإنَّ افْتقادي واحداً بعد واحد

دليل على أن لا يدوم خليل

And indeed, my losing them one after another

is proof that no close friend endures.
