وغائبٌ تُذْكِرُني كتبه

وغائبٌ تُذْكِرُني كتبه

ليالياً دمعي لها في انسكاب

ليالياً دمعي لها في انسكاب

And many an absent one—his letters remind me

of nights for which my tears pour down.

فهاك بالمرسلِ من أدمعِي

فهاك بالمرسلِ من أدمعِي

حديثَ شجوِي من كتابِ الشهاب

حديثَ شجوِي من كتابِ الشهاب

So take, from what my tears send forth,

the tale of my sorrows from the Book of al-Shihāb.
