وقحبةٌ في حرِّها

وقحبةٌ في حرِّها

حرٌّ يُنافي ذكرها

حرٌّ يُنافي ذكرها

And a whore within her sanctuary—

Syrian rue is at odds with speaking of her.

إن قلت ما أقبحها

إن قلت ما أقبحها

قلت وما أحرُّها

قلت وما أحرُّها

If you say, “How ugly she is!”

I reply, “And how forbidden she is!”
