أعربت يا مقلتي الغافيه

عن زورةٍ كافيه شافيه

You have disclosed, O my concealed eye,

a visit sufficient and healing.

طيف كرى ما زال إلا غدت

ما الشرط للأحزان ما النافيه

A phantom of slumber had scarcely vanished when

conditional mā became, for sorrows, negating mā.

كما نفت وافر خوف الورَى

عافية من سيِّدي وافيه

Just as the people’s abundant fear was dispelled

by my master’s complete recovery.

قاضي قضاة الدِّين ما شهبه

خائفة القطع ولا خافيه

The Chief Judge of the Faith—his white hairs

neither fear being cut nor lie concealed.

ذو العلم والجدوى التي شردت

محلاً وجهلاً عينها الصافيه

Possessor of knowledge and generosity—whose limpid spring

has driven drought and ignorance away.

ماذا جرى للخلقِ خوفاً على

مهجته من أدمعٍ طافيه

What flowed from the people, in fear for

his life—such overflowing tears!

فالآن أحزان الورَى قد عفت

فالحمد لله على العافيه

Now the people’s sorrows have vanished;

so praise be to God for restored well-being.
