أترى يقضى بكم أملي

قبل ما يقضى بكم أجلي

I wonder: will my hope through you be fulfilled

before my allotted life is ended through you?

أيها الغيَّاب بعد جفا

ما على هجرين من قِبَل

O absent ones, after such estrangement—

what cause for your abandonment lies on my side?

في سبيل الله دمع فتىً

مسرع الأجفان من همل

A young man’s tears are spent in the path of God—

his eyelids swift to pour them forth.

لا تلم إنسان مقلته

خلق الإنسان من عجل

Do not blame the pupil—the “man” of his eye:

man was created of haste.
