1. وخاطرٌ عنتُ الأشواقِ تعجبه

    جآذِرُ الترْكِ لا زَيَّ الأعاريب

    And a mind afflicted by yearning is delighted by

    the gazelles of the Turks—not the garb of the Bedouin Arabs—

  2. من كلِّ أهيفٍ ضاقت عينه فمتى

    يجودُ لي من تلاقيه بمطلوبي

    each slender one whose eye is narrow. So when

    will he graciously grant me, through meeting him, what I desire?
