قلبٌ بمصر وقالبٌ بالشام

مَنْ مبلغ قلبي ومصرَ سلامي

My heart is in Egypt, my body in Damascus

Who will send my heart's greetings and peace to Egypt?

أخفي بكميَّ الدموع تلوّنت

فكأنها الأزهار في الأكمام

I hide my tear-filled eyes that have turned

Into flowers tucked in sleeves

شوقاً أجدت عليه نثر مدامعي

وعلى عُلا قاضي القضاة نظامي

Yearning, I shed my tears over it

And over the eminent Chief Justice

قاضي القضاة عليه يعقد خنصر

ويضيء وجه العلم من إبهام

The Chief Justice on whom the ring is placed

And the light of knowledge shines from his thumb

يا وارث الأنصار عودة وفده

نصراً على الأعداء والإعدام

O inheritor of the Helpers, return with your delegation

Victorious over enemies and their doom

العيد قد حمل الهنا أعلامه

فتهنّ يا علاّمةَ الأعلام

The feast has raised its banners of joy

So congratulations, highest of the high

وانحر بصحبته الضحايا والعدى

فالكلّ معدودٌ من الأنعام

Slaughter with him the sacrifices and enemies

For all are counted among the cattle

بلغت في الحبِّ سن الطاعن الهرم

وما بلغت بسهدي مبلغ الحلم

In love I have reached the age of the feeble elder

Yet my passion hasn't reached the state of dreams

لا وصل سعدى ولا الطيف الملم فيا

للقلب من ألمٍ باقٍ على ألم

No union with Sa'diyah or the dear one I care for

But a lingering pain remains in my heart

أصبحت في الحب فرد الانتساب وفي

مدح الوزير فقل في المفرد العلم

In love I've become peerless and in

Praising the minister, say I'm unmatched in knowledge

أزكى الأكارم في خُبرٍ وفي خبرَ

وأرأس القوم من عرب ومن عجم

The most generous in valor and valor

The best of Arabs and non-Arabs alike

يا مذكري بكرام قد فقدتهُم

فكان أكرم وجدان على عدم

O my reminders of nobles now gone

For the most noble of beings is nothingness

يا من يسائل عن مالي ويطلبني

وكلها حيلة منه على الكرم

O you who ask about my wealth and seek me

When it's just a ruse of generosity from him

جد لي بشيءٍ يحاكيني فإنيَ قد

أصبحت لولاكمُ لحماً على وضم

Find me something that consoles me, for

Without you all, I'm just flesh and bone
