سكنتُ وابني بدارِ قومٍ

أوقاتنا تارَةً وتارَه

I dwelt with my sons in the home of a people

Whose time was at times fire, at others ember.

فإنها بالخصام نارٌ

وقودها الناسُ والحجارة

For strife is a furnace; its fuel men and stones.
