1. على مثلها فلتهمِ أعيننا العبرى

    وتطلق في ميدانها الشهب والحمرا

    On the likes of her, let our tearful eyes weep

    And let meteors and red stars shoot in her arena

  2. فقدنا بني الدنيا فلما تلفتَّت

    وجوهُ أمانينا فقدنا بني الأخرى

    We lost the children of this world, so when

    The faces of our wishes were disappointed, we lost the children of the other

  3. لفقدك إبراهيم أمست قلوبنا

    مؤجَّجةً لا برد في نارها الحرى

    For your loss, O Ibrahim, our hearts have become

    Inflamed, no coldness in its burning ember

  4. وأنت بجنَّات النعيم مهنأ

    بما كنت تبلى في تطلبه العمرا

    While you are in the Gardens of Bliss, congratulated

    For what you used to suffer in pursuing life

  5. عريت وجوّعت الفؤاد فحبَّذا

    مساكن فيها لا تجوعُ ولا تعرى

    It exposed and pained the heart, so excellent

    Are dwellings in which one neither starves nor is bare

  6. بكى الجامع المعمورُ فقدَك بعد ما

    لبثت على رغم الدِّيار به دهرا

    The frequented mosque cried for your loss after

    You dwelled in it for ages defiant to the abodes

  7. وفارقته بعد التوطن سارياً

    إلى جنةِ المأوى فسبحان من أسرى

    And left it after settling, travelling

    To the Garden of Refuge, so Glory to the One who ascended

  8. كأنَّ مصابيحَ الظلام بأفقهِ

    لفقدك نيرانُ الصبابة والذكرى

    It is as if the lamps of darkness in its horizon

    For your loss are the fires of youth and remembrance

  9. كأنَّ المحاريبَ القيام بصدرهِ

    لفرقةِ ذاك الصدر قد قوّست ظهرا

    It is as if the prayer niches erect in its chest

    For the separation of that chest have curved backs

  10. مضيت وخلَّفت الديار وأهلها

    بمضيعةٍ تشكو الشدائدَ والوزرا

    You went away and left the dwellings and its people

    In loss, complaining of hardships and burden

  11. فمن لسهام الليل بعدك إنَّها

    معطلةٌ ليست تراشُ ولا تبرى

    So who after you for the arrows of night? They

    Are broken, neither mended nor sharpened

  12. ومن لعفافٍ عن ثراً وبني الورى

    عبيِد الأماني وانْثنيت به حرَّا

    And who for modesty from evil and the children of mankind

    Slaves of wishes, and it has bowed down with burning

  13. سيعلم كلّ من ذوي المال في غدٍ

    إذا نصب الميزان من يشتكي الفقرا

    All those with wealth will know tomorrow

    When the Scale is set up, who will complain of poverty

  14. عليك سلام الله من متيقظٍ

    صبورٍ إذا لمْ يستطعْ بشرٌ صبرا

    Peace be upon you from one awake,

    Patient when a mortal cannot be patient

  15. ومن ضامر الكشحين يسبق في غدٍ

    إلى غايةٍ من أجلها تحمد الضّمرا

    And from one with withered cheeks who will precede tomorrow

    To a goal for which reasons are praised

  16. أيعلم ذو التسليك أن جفوننا

    على شخصه النائي قد انْتثرت دُرَّا

    Does the guide know that our eyelids

    Are scattering pearls for him in absence

  17. وأن الأسى كالحزن قد جالَ جولة

    فما أكثر القتلى وما أرخص الأسرى

    And that sorrow like grief has taken a stroll

    So numerous are the slain and cheap the captives

  18. ألا رُبَّ ليلٍ قد حمى فيه من وغى

    حمى الشام والأجفان غافلة تكرى

    Oh, many are the nights in which, from the clamor,

    It has protected the slumbering eyelids in heedlessness

  19. إذا ضحك السمار حجب ثغره

    كذلك يحمي العابد الثغر والثغرا

    When the entertainer laughs, his mouth veils

    Likewise the worshipper protects the mouth and mouth

  20. إلى الله قلباً بعده في تغابنٍ

    إلى أن رأى صف القيامة والحشرا

    To God a heart after Him in discord

    Until it saw the row of Resurrection and Gathering

  21. لقد كنت ألقاهُ وصدريَ محرج

    فيفتح لي يسراً ويشرحُ لي صدرا

    You were whom I met while my chest embarrassed

    So you opened ease for me and expanded my chest

  22. وألثم يمناه وفكريَ ظامئٌ

    كأنيَ منها ألثم الوابل الغمرا

    And I kissed your right hand while my mind thirsty

    As if I was kissing the pouring rain from it

  23. أمولاي إني كنت أرجوكَ للدعا

    فلا تنسني بالخلدِ في الدعوة الكبرى

    My patron, I used to hope for you for supplication

    So do not forget me in eternity with the Greatest Supplication

  24. سقى القطر أرضاً قد حللت بتربِها

    وإن كنت أستسقي برؤيتك القطرا

    The rain quenched land that dissolved with its soil

    And if I seek rain from seeing you, be the rain

  25. ومن كانَ يرجى منه في المدحِ أجرة

    فإني أرجو في مدائحِكَ الأجرا

    And whoever hopes for reward in praise

    I hope for reward in praising you
