1. أقسمت من فرعها المسبول بالداجي

    كالآبنوس بمشط الرجل في العاج

    I swear by the one with the soft, flowing hair

    Like ebony with the comb of a man in ivory

  2. لقد تورَّط قلبي في حبائلِها

    فما أرى أنَّه من حبِّها ناج

    My heart has been trapped in her spells

    I don’t see it being saved from her love

  3. لو أنسَ يوم النوى دمعاً بوجنتِها

    كما نثرت لآلٍ فوق ديباج

    If the young one's tears stained her cheek one day

    As she sprinkled the necklaces on the brocade

  4. وناظرِي حينَ أخلى الجزع ساكنه

    كعارضٍ بعقيقِ الدمعِ ثجاج

    And my eyes when sorrow left it dwelling

    Like a lover shedding tears of agony

  5. محجوبة إن أقل عمرِي انْقضى فبِها

    قضى حجايَ ولم يقض اللقا حاجي

    If the least of my life passed with her

    My pilgrimage was fulfilled but not the meeting, my purpose

  6. لا عيبَ فيها سوى ريق على بَرد

    مبرِّد في الشتا والصيف ثلاَّج

    No fault in her but saliva on cold

    Ice in winter and summer melting

  7. قسمت أغزالَ شعري والمديح لها

    نظم الشذور ونظم الدر في التاج

    I have sworn the gazelles of my poetry and praise to her

    Prose of embers and prose of pearls in the crown

  8. يحيي الندى جعفر والفضل قد فنيا

    وظله لا عدِمنا ظله ساج

    May morning dew revive Ja'far and al-Fadl they are gone

    And may its shade not leave us, never leaving its column

  9. ذو الجود كم جملٍ من وفر راحته

    قد عوجلت قبل تحصيلٍ بإخراج

    The generous one, how many beautiful acts of generosity

    Were rushed before being counted in expenditure

  10. والبر والمكرمات الغرّ كم هرعت

    إليه أفواجُ قصدٍ بعد أفواج

    And kindness and generous acts, how much did they rush

    To him in waves of purpose after waves

  11. كم من بناتٍ وأبناءٍ قد اجْتمعوا

    على قراه وزوجاتٍ وأزواج

    How many daughters, sons gathered

    Around his towns, wives, and husbands

  12. كم بين أبيات أمداحِي له شيمٌ

    كأنَّهنَّ نجومٌ بين أبراج

    How many noble qualities in my praises to him

    Are like stars between towers

  13. بحر أرى مقبلات الخير أكثر من

    ماضي سرَاها فما عدٌّ لأمواج

    I see the sea of good news more than

    Its flowing past, no counting its waves

  14. في كفِّه القلمان الرَّاجحان على

    سواهما بين كفاتٍ وأدراج

    In his hand the two feathers outweighing

    Others between palms and chests

  15. يا حبَّذا قلمُ التصريف مع قلم ال

    إنشاءِ من سابقٍ في الطرسِ هملاج

    O the bliss of the feather of administration with the feather of

    Composition, outstanding in broadcasting goodness

  16. وحبَّذا الطرس منشوراً بنفعِ رجا

    وملتقي كلّ ذي همٍّ بإفراج

    And blissful is the broadcasting, beneficial to aspiring men

    And meeting everyone with concerns to relieve them

  17. وحبَّذا من حباسيّ وأنعمهُ

    فرّاجة لمثارِ الخطب مهتاج

    And blissful is the one releasing captives and favoring them

    Relieving fruits of sorrows raging

  18. في الحمدِ والأجرِ ذو فكرٍ وذو نظرٍ

    إلى صميمِ العلى والفضل ولاَّج

    In praise and reward, of wise and seeing thought

    To the essence of highness, merit, and intimacy

  19. قضى له الله أن تعلو مراتبهُ

    وأن يكون ملاذ القاصد اللاجي

    May God ordain his rank be raised

    And that he be the refuge of the aspiring refugees

  20. مهنأ الجود مدلول النوال على

    أهل المقاصدِ دارٍ حالَ محتاج

    Bestowing kindness, receiving wishes from

    People of purposes whose state is needy

  21. إذا أراد قبولَ البرِّ خالقنا

    هيا نوافلهُ في وقت إحواج

    If the Creator wanted acceptance of righteousness

    Come, his voluntary acts at a time of need

  22. يا مذكري من كريمِ الدِّين أنعمه

    بمصر دُمْ أنت تاجيُّ العلى ناجي

    O you who remind me of the generous man, bless him

    In Egypt stay, you are the aspiring’s highest wish granted

  23. لقد منحت كثيراً من قليلك إذ

    قليله في كثير الوفر رَوَّاج

    You have given much from your little when

    Your little in abundant generosity is streaming

  24. فأنتَ عندِي وعند الناس أكرم من

    ذاك الممكن يا نعم الفتى الراجي

    For you are to me and people more generous than

    That possible one, O the excellent desiring youth

  25. مولايَ مولاي تاج الدِّين ممتدحاً

    حاشا لمنهاج ذاك الباب من هاج

    My Master, my Master, pride of religion, while praised

    Far from the way of that gate the outraged

  26. أحسنْ بها جبةً قد فرَّجتْ كربِي

    عودية أطربتني بعد إزعاج

    Bestow on it a robe that relieved my worries

    A gentle tune that delighted me after annoyance

  27. شكراً لنسَّاجها بل للجواد بها

    مستفتحاً باب شعري بعد إرتاج

    Thanks to its weaver! But to the generous one who gave it

    Opening my poetry's gate after confusion

  28. إن يكسِي ما سيبليه الزمان فقدْ

    كساه ما ليسَ يبلى نسج نساج

    If it clothes what time will wear, then it has clothed

    What will not wear out, the weaving of a weaver

  29. لأجعلنَّ لشعرِي عنده ملكاً

    على الرواةِ سنيّ الملك والتاج

    I will make for my poetry through him a kingdom

    Over the narrators, excellent in rule and crown
