كلّ الجوانح قلب فيك مشغوف

وما لحاصل حبِّي عنك مصروف

My heart is passionately in love with you

And my love for you cannot be diverted

ذكري بخاطرك الناسي مصادفة

وخاطري عن سوى ذكراك مصدوف

Thoughts of you coincide with my memories

While my mind is closed off to any other thoughts

يا ظبية من ظباء الحيّ نافرة

حتَّامَ هجرك شيء منك مألوف

O gazelle, aloof from the herds of life

Till being apart from you became habitual

ويل لجفنيّ لا جفنيك من سهرٍ

لكيله في الدجى خسر وتطفيف

Woe to my sleepless eyes, not your sleepless eyes

Exhausted in the darkness, tossing and turning

يا باذل الوفر في الدنيا لآخرة

بشراكَ فضل على الأخرى وتسليف

O you who squandered your prime for the hereafter

Good news, your reward exceeds the former and the loan

عذراً لنظميَ والدنيا مطابقة

شكواي مستورة والحال مكشوف

Excuse my verse, though life corresponds to it

My complaints concealed, and the matter exposed

وضعف فكريَ عن نظم القريض له

كالعدّ في رقعة الشطرنج تضعيف

And my mind’s weakness in composing poetry

Like counting squares on a chessboard doubling

لا زلت أنشد قولي فيك من قدمٍ

وأنت بالخلعةِ الزهراء محفوف

Still I chant my words about you since long ago

While you are clad in radiant attire

أهل يهنيك بالتشريف محتفلاً

يا من بأيامه المعروف معروف

Family congratulating your honoured state

O you known through all your days for trust

لكنني بك أختار الهناء لها

فإن قدرك للتشريف تشريف

But I choose congratulations for them

For your fate is itself an honor
