أفدي قمر

عقلي قمر

I ransom the moon of my mind

Then it betrayed when it could

ثمَّ غدر

لمَّا قدر

So no burden and no escape

O you who unsheathed the sword of insight

فلا وزر

ولا مفر

Against mankind, never tiring

Until the flame of thought blazed

يا من شهر

سيف الحوَر

Even if the slender one commanded

From the mouth to extinguish the sparks

على البشر

فما فتر

But estrangement, I do not remember

Spilled blood

حتى استعر

وهج الفكر

If only he would look

At my tearful river

ولو أمر

ذاكَ الخصرْ

On the flower of the guard

Telling the full moon, king of life

من الثغر

أطفى شرر

With what he spread

Spread the news

لكن هجر

وما ادَّكر

Of the news

And the laboratory

دماً هدر

هلاّ نظر

For God, a pearl

Those manners

دمعي نهر

على زَهر

How many gems

And pearls

ذاكَ الخفر

يحكي بدر

In which he stayed up late

Until dawn

ملك عمر

بما نشر

Without boredom or harm

Knowledge is a skilled horseman

نشرَ الخُبر

من الخبر

Outstanding merit then spread

So how much he forgave

والمختبر

لله دَرّ

And how much he supported

Against others, he truly stumbled

تلكَ السير

كم من غرر

And how much he defeated

Of the evil one

ومن دُرَر

فيها سمر

The wine crept in

O you who veiled

إلى السَّحر

ولا ضجر

The people of deprivation

Of those who thanked

ولا ضرر

علمٌ مهر

Then excused

You are the rain

فضلٌ ظهر

ثمَّ انتشر

Not what was seen

On the meadow

فكم غفر

وكم نصر

Block who attended

And who passed by

على الغِير

جدّاً عثر

And do not neglect

Whoever vowed

وكم قهر

من ذي أشر

Of the arrogant

Except harmful

دب الخمر

يا من ستر

أهل الحصر

ممن شكر

ثمَّ عذر

أنت المطر

لا ما نظر

على المدر

سد من حضر

ومن غبر

ولا تذر

لمن نذر

من مفتخر

إلا مُضر
