كانت لنظمي رقَّةٌ

ضنَّ الزمان بما استحقَّت

My poems once held such tenderness

But time betrayed what they deserved

فصرفتها عن فكرتي

وقطعتها من حيث رقت

So I turned thoughts from their caress

And severed ties where once they swerved
