1. سلوت لكن قلبي يا سعاد سلي

    وأنت في الحلّ من قلبي ومن قِبَلي

    Peace be upon you, but my heart, oh Saad, bid farewell

    While you are in my heart and my kiss

  2. قد جاء ما جاء من رأيٍ ومن رشدٍ

    وزال ما زال من غيٍّ ومن زَللِ

    What has come to pass has come to pass, of opinion and wisdom

    And what has passed has passed, of error and misstep

  3. لا الرشد ساعدني من قبل ذاكَ ولا

    أصالة الرأي صانتْني عن الخطل

    Neither wisdom aided me before nor

    The integrity of opinion protected me from oversight

  4. ولا الوجوه قناديلٌ تخادعني

    في الحسنِ في طرر الأصداغ كالقبل

    Nor did faces like lanterns deceive me

    In beauty, in the brightness of cheeks like a kiss

  5. حتَّى أضا الشيب في فودِي فأرْشدني

    إلى الهدى في سواد الرأس كالشعل

    Until old age shone on my cheeks and guided me

    To guidance in the blackness of hair like a flame

  6. فلا الخلاعة بعد اليوم من أربي

    ولا التغزُّل في الأشعارِ من شغلي

    So neither frivolity from today onward nor

    Infatuation in poetry is my occupation

  7. وغاضَ ماء شبابٍ قد عصيت بهِ

    رأي النصيح فلم أسمع ولم أخل

    And the water of a youth I disobeyed with it has passed

    The advice of the counselor, I did not listen nor perceive

  8. ولا حصلت على دنيا وآخرةٍ

    إلا بدولة من أنشا ذوي الدول

    And I did not attain the world or the hereafter

    Except through the fortune of the creator of fortunes

  9. أنشي مدائح سلطان العباد بلا

    لغوٍ وأتلو معانيها بلا خلل

    I compose praises of the sultan of worshipers without

    Nonsense and recite its meanings without error

  10. الناصر اسماً وألقاباً وأفعلةً

    فانْظر لنصرٍ على عطفيه مشتمل

    Al-Nasir in name, titles and deeds

    So look upon a victory encompassing his shoulders

  11. ملك تنقَّل في مدحٍ يلذُّ به

    يا لذَّة النقل أو يا لذَّة النقَل

    A king who excels in praise that delights him

    Oh the delight of transmission or the delight of conveyance

  12. سلطان مصر الرخا والأمن عمَّ فما

    بها سوى النيل قطَّاع على السبل

    The sultan of prosperous Egypt, security has spread so what is in it

    Besides the Nile, highway robber on the roads

  13. أسعى لأبوابه العليا يبشّرني

    بشيرها بنجاحِ القصدِ والأمل

    I hasten to his lofty gates, its harbinger heralds to me

    The success of purpose and hope

  14. وتنْتهي بي إلى أبوابه مِدَحٌ

    تخطو وتخطر بين الحلي والحلل

    And it takes me to his gates, a praise

    That treads and hovers between jewelry and garments

  15. من فضل جدواه أرجوها فيغْرقني

    بحرٌ لديه بحار الأرض كالوشل

    From his abundant generosity I hope for which immerses me

    A sea whose seas are the lands' pools

  16. ينجي الغريق إذا أعطى وبعض مُضا

    سيوفه تفرق الأعداء بالبدل

    It saves the drowning when it gives and some of the unsheathed

    Swords scatter the enemies substitutionally

  17. جوداً وبأساً كأنَّ الأرض بينهما

    لم تبد عشباً سوَى الأقلام والأسل

    Generosity and valor as if between them the land

    Bore no plants but pens and swords

  18. مقسّم السيف والأقلام يوم ندًى

    ويوم هيجاء بين الرزق والأجل

    Dividing between sword and pens, a day of pleasure

    And a day of war between sustenance and term

  19. أوْفى الملوك إذا عدُّوا لسابقةٍ

    تلوَ الزمان وتلوَ الأعصر الأول

    The most faithful of kings if they were counted for precedence

    Came after time and after the first eras

  20. جاؤا على عجلٍ لا يلحقون مدَا

    سبقٍ كأنَّهمُ جاؤا على مهل

    They came in haste, unable to catch up to the outstripped

    Pace as if they came at leisure

  21. وشائد الملك مشغولٌ بأربعةٍ

    من العطا والسطا والعلم والعمل

    The royal marksman is busy with four things

    Giving, power, knowledge and action

  22. نجل الملوك إذا جرُّوا عساكرهم

    ألهتهم الطعنة النجلا عن النجل

    The son of kings when they march their armies

    The stabbing preoccupies them from the stabbed

  23. وصرفوا الرأي في عدلٍ ومعرفةٍ

    حتَّى بكلِّ طرير السنِّ معتدل

    And they divert opinion into justice and knowledge

    Until with every chirp of old age, temperate

  24. ذو الرأي والراية العلياء سيرتهُ

    عمالةُ الجدِّ بين الحيل والحيل

    The one of opinion and the highest banner, his conduct

    Is the practice of seriousness between cunning and cunning

  25. إن لم تكن سيرة البطَّال فهيَ بما

    أذاقه للأعادِي سيرة البطل

    If it is not the conduct of heroism then it is with what

    He made his enemies taste, the conduct of a hero

  26. يا من إذا شغلَ الأملاك لهوهمُ

    فنفسه بالتقى والملك في شغل

    Oh you, if the kingdoms preoccupy them with their vanity

    His soul is preoccupied with piety and the kingdom business

  27. تهنّ عاماً مضيء السعد متَّصلاً

    بألف عامٍ مضيء السعد متصل

    Prosper a bright year connected

    To a thousand bright prosperous years connected

  28. عامٌ يقول على رأسي سعت قدمي

    لرأس عامٍ بهذا العام محتفل

    A year saying at its head, my foot has expanded

    For the head of a year celebrating this year

  29. وكالهلال حبى طهر السلام إلى

    بدرٍ فيا حسن مهلول ومكتمل

    And like the crescent it coupled the purity of peace to

    A full moon, so nice rounded and complete

  30. والعشر قبَّل من يمناك خمستها

    عشراً وعشراً ولا يروى من القبل

    And the tenth it kissed from your right hand five of it

    Ten and ten, and is not sated from kissing

  31. فدى لطلعتك الأقمار طالعةً

    بعد الأهلة كالأخوال والخوَل

    The moons ransom their rising for your rising

    After the crescents like sisters-in-law and nieces

  32. متى يوفى مقال المدح ما عملت

    نعماك شتَّان بين القول والعمل

    When will speech fulfill what your favors have done

    Very different between words and action

  33. فعشْ ودُمْ للعلى والملك مطّلعاً

    على المفاخر طلاَّعاً على القُلَل

    So live long to the Most High and the kingdom rising

    To glories rising over the hills

  34. نلنا المنى السهل يا من حلمهُ جبلٌ

    يا فائض الفضل بين السهل والجبل

    We attained the easy attainment, oh you whose dream is a mountain

    Oh abundant generosity between plain and mountain
