1. مليّ الحسن حالي الوجنتين

    متى يقضي وعود الوصل ديني

    My cheeks are filled with joy, radiant

    When will the promises of our union be fulfilled?

  2. أبثك إنّ عاذليَ المعنى

    رآك بعين حبٍّ مثل عيني

    I confide in you, though my lover reproaches me

    He saw you with loving eyes like mine

  3. فحاكى قلبه قلبي خفوقاً

    وحكمت الهوى في الخافقين

    So his heart fluttered like my fluttering heart

    And passion ruled over both our hearts

  4. لمثل هواك تجنح كل نفسٍ

    وتسفح كلّ ناظرة بعين

    For a love like yours every soul inclines

    And every gazing eye overflows with tears

  5. صددت فما الأسى عندي بقلٍّ

    ولا دمعي بدون القلتين

    I was firm, so grief is not too heavy for me

    Nor are my tears beyond counting

  6. ولا جلد على إنكار دهرٍ

    رمى قلبي الوحيد بفرقتين

    Nor can I pretend to ignore a fate

    That threw my lonely heart between two separations

  7. مضى المحبوب ثم مضى شبابي

    وأيّ العيش يصلح بعد ذين

    My beloved left, and then my youth left

    What life can be lived after this?

  8. هما هجرَا على رغمي فأرخ

    حديث تلهفي بالهجرتين

    They both abandoned me against my will, so I let loose

    The tale of my yearning for both separations

  9. بروحي عاطر الأنفاس ألمى

    رشيق القدِّ ساجي المقلتين

    With my soul's perfume, my sighing breath

    My slender waist and beautiful eyes

  10. يهزُّ مثقفاً من معطفيه

    ومن جفنيه يجذب مرهفين

    He shakes refined from his cloak

    And pulls at my tender eyelids

  11. له خالان في دينار خدٍّ

    تباع له القلوب بحبتين

    He has two moles in a gold cheek

    For which hearts are sold for two seeds

  12. وحول نقا سوالفه عذارٌ

    كما شعرت نقوش في لجين

    And around his soft conversation are maidens

    Like patterns embroidered on smooth cheeks

  13. أظلّ إذا نظرت لوجنتيه

    أنزّه في النقا والرقمتين

    I remain in shade when I look upon his cheeks

    Pure as carving and streaked with veins

  14. فيا لله من غصنٍ فريدٍ

    وفي خدَّيه كلتا الجنتين

    What a wonderfully unique branch is he

    With both heavens in his cheeks

  15. أما وحباب مبسمه المفدّى

    على معسول كأس المرشفين

    When the smile of my beloved one shines

    On the sweet cup passed between us

  16. لقد عذُبت موارده ولكن

    ندى المنصور أحلى الموردين

    I suffered from his watering places but

    The dew of al-Mansur is the sweetest spring

  17. ندى ملك له في الملك خد

    وجد فهو عدل الشاهدين

    The dew of a king whose rule has a cheek

    He found justice between both witnesses

  18. يمدُّ بساعدين إلى المعالي

    ويتعب في النوال براحتين

    He extends with two arms to high ambitions

    And strives in grants with both hands

  19. كثير السعي في شرف ومجدٍ

    قليل الشكو من ضجرٍ وأين

    Full of effort for glory and honor

    Little complaining of boredom and where

  20. كأنَّ هواه في حبّ العطايا

    يطالبه بدِين لا بدَين

    It's as if his love for giving

    Asks him for loans, not debts

  21. إذا ما أشرقت خدَّاه بشراً

    فعوّذها بربّ المشرقين

    When his cheeks shine with good news

    Seek protection from the Lord of the two dawns

  22. وإن حمل السلاح ليوم حربٍ

    فقل في الليث ماضي الماضغين

    And if he bears arms one day for war

    Say of the fierce lion, renderer of limbs

  23. يهشّ السيف في يمناه عجباً

    ويبسم بالهنا سن الرّديني

    The sword flashes wondrous in his right hand

    And he smiles with good news, grinders of molars

  24. ورُبَّ طلوب حلمٍ قد دعاه

    فعاد بهين الأخلاق لين

    Though many gently dissuaded him from war

    He returned refined of character, soft

  25. بأروع ناصريِّ الذكر ما في

    رواية فضله مثقال رين

    None can match, in eulogizing his eminent aid

    The weight of one carat in recounting his virtues

  26. يصيح للفظ مادحه بأذنٍ

    وينعم من خزائنه بعين

    His eulogizer cries out loud

    And sees the treasures of his eyes

  27. ويجمع بالثنا والأجر دنيا

    وآخرة فيرضي الضرَّتين

    Gathering with praise and reward, the world

    And hereafter, pleasing both abodes

  28. على حين الشبيبة في اقتبالٍ

    وفرع الملك زاهي المعطفين

    While youth continues to rise

    And the branch of his kingdom thrives, cloaked

  29. يقلّ لذكره الإقبال قدماً

    وكيف يقاس ذو زين بشين

    Eulogies for him make Success bow down

    And how can one adorned be matched to one disgraced?

  30. فلا تتبع لتبع ذكر جور

    ودعنا من رعونة ذي رعين

    So do not pursue the defects of the unjust

    And leave us from the foolishness of the shepherd

  31. أقام محمدٌ للفضل شرعاً

    محا ما كان من شكٍّ ومين

    Muhammad instituted the ways of merit

    Erasing what was of doubt and blemish

  32. ورادف حسن خَلق حسن خُلق

    فلم يقنع بإحدى الحسنيين

    And matched good nature with good nurture

    Not content with just one goodness

  33. كذا فليبقَ في أُفق المعالي

    ووالده بقاء الفرقدين

    Thus may he remain on the horizon of glories

    And his father in the abode of the two burials

  34. أصوغ له مدائح لم يصغها

    على سيف العلى نجل الحسين

    I fashion eulogies for him none fashioned

    For the Sword of the Exalted, son of Hussein

  35. وأطلق فيه ألفاظاً تسامت

    على ألفاظ رهن المحسنين

    And unleash for him words that transcend

    The words that flatter even the beneficent
