  1. يا سيِّدي يا ملاذَ الطالبين ومن

    بعلمِه ونداهُ أنجحَ الطلبا

    O my Lord, refuge of seekers, from whose

    Knowledge and generosity the seeker succeeds

  2. مباشرُ والجامع المعمورِ قد منعوا

    وافي الحوالةِ عن قصدِي فوا حربا

    The direct and frequented university prevented

    The faithful messenger from my intent, so alas for war

  3. فإن أتوكَ وقالوا إنَّها نصفٌ

    فإنَّ أطيبَ نصفيه الذي ذهبا

    If they come to you and say it is but half

    Then the finest half of me is the part that left

  4. خمسون قالت لفكرٍ كان ذا أدبٍ

    أبعد خمسين منِّي تبتغي الأدبا

    Fifty, said to a courteous mind,

    After fifty, do you still seek courtesy?
