رشأٌ رشفت رضابه أو ثعلب

ما للمحبِّ إلى رضاه بلوغ

Whether it's a young gazelle or a fox,

The lover has no path to satisfaction.

حلو اللمى متمنّع يعطيك من

طرفِ اللسانِ حلاوةً ويروغ

The charming beloved plays hard to get, giving you

Sweetness from the tip of his tongue, then slips away.

لا مثل أقلام بيمنى سعدها

لفظاً وفضلاً كلهنَّ بليغ

None can match the pens of Sa'd in their grace,

Eloquence and excellence, all sublime.

لسطورها صبغ يردّ شبيبة

منَّا وللنعمى لديه سبوغ

Their lines imbue youthful vigor in us

While for them virtue itself gushes forth.

نبغت فضائله وجدوى كفّه

ناهيك نابغة له ونبوغ

His merits and helpfulness stand out,

Not to mention his own talent and brilliance.

فليهنه العيد السعيد لمثله

مِدَح تساغ لواردٍ وتسوغ

So let this joyous feast do justice to one like him,

With praise pleasing for host and guests alike.

من جودهِ ذهبٌ ومن ألفاظه

دُرَرٌ تباح لنا ونحن نصوغ

From his generosity, gold; from his words,

Glistening pearls for us to string and polish.
