عسى لعليل الجسم طيفك عائد

كريم اللّقا والمكرمات عوائد

May your frail body's specter return,

Generous in meeting and generosity recurring,

لقد حجَّ فيَّ الطيف بالوصل مرة

فهل هو في حجِّ الوصال معاوِدُ

For the specter visited me once with union,

Will it in visiting union recur?

ألا إنني في الحبِّ يا ظبيةَ النقا

كما في العلا بن القيس إني واحد

Indeed, I am in love, O gazelle of virtue,

Like Al-Nabigha in his love - I stand alone,

شريف مسماه الممدّح واسمه

وشائدُ بيت المدح والمنح سائد

Noble is his name, the one praised,

Rising in the abode of praise and favor.

تهنّ به حجّ القبول ودعوة

عليها لأنوار القبول شواهد

With him the pilgrimage of acceptance was blessed, and invoked upon it

Were beacons of acceptance as witnesses.

تقول لهاتيك المناسكِ مرحباً

بكم يا بني مخزومَ حين تشاهد

It says to those rites, "Welcome!

O children of Makhzum, when you are seen."

لقد شرَّفت ناسٌ وبادت وإنما

لكم شرفٌ في سائرِ الناسِ خالد

Some ennobled people then perished, but for you

Is an abiding nobility among all people.
