يا إير لا تركن لعلقٍ ولا

تثق بهِ واتْركه مع نفسه

O friend, do not lean on an unreliable one,

Nor trust him, leave him be with himself,

ولا ترجّ الودّ ممَّن يرى

أنَّك محتاجٌ إلى فلسِه

And do not expect affection from one who sees,

That you are in need of his penny.
