ووعد بعض الناس وعد كما

يقال لا حسِّي ولا مِسِّي

Some people make promises as though

they say "neither touch nor sensation"

فلا يكل قصدي عليه سوى

في البشرِ والترحيبِ والأنس

So my only intention towards him is

with humanity, welcome and sociability

لا زلت دانِي الجود في القدرِ عن

عدوّ وافيه على الأمس

I still recognize generosity in fate from

an enemy reconciled yesterday
