1. لامُ العذارِ أطالت فيك تسهيدي

    كأنَّها لغرامي لامُ توكيد

    The blame of my passion prolonged my lament for you

    As if it were confirming my love for you

  2. وخلفُ وعدك خلقٌ منك أعرفه

    فليت كان التجافي منك موعودي

    And your unkept promise is a trait I know of you

    If only your indifference to me was promised

  3. يا من أفنّد في وجدي عليه وما

    أبقى الأسى فيّ ما يصغى لتفنيد

    O you who exhausted my love for you but did not

    Leave sorrow in me that listens to dissuasion

  4. عاب العدى منك أصداغاً مجعدة

    عيب المقصر عن نيلِ العناقيدِ

    The injustice of your rejection pained my cheeks

    The fault of one who fails to attain the bunches

  5. وعقد بندٍ على خصر رجعت به

    ذا ناظر بنجومِ الليلِ معقود

    And the knotted waistband I brought back

    With a watcher of the stars of night knotted

  6. كأنه تحت وجدان القبَا عدَمٌ

    وا حيرتي بين معدوم وموجود

    As if under the passion of kisses, there was nothingness

    And my confusion between non-existent and existent

  7. ردَّ الجفاءُ سؤالي فيك أجمعهُ

    فما لسائلِ دمعي غير مردود

    The harshness returned all my questions about you

    So for my tearful questioning there is no response

  8. لقد خضعت إلى وجدي كما خضعت

    إلى المؤيدِ أعناقُ الصناديد

    Indeed, I surrendered to my love as the necks

    Of the mighty surrendered to the supported

  9. داعي المقاصد في علم وفي كرم

    إلى لقاءِ مليّ الفضلِ مقصود

    The caller of purposes in knowledge and in generosity

    To the meeting of the owner of abundant virtue sought

  10. تسري سفينُ الأماني نحو منزله

    فتستوي من أياديه على الجودي

    The ship of wishes sails toward his abode

    To become equal from his hands in generosity

  11. ذاكَ الذي أسعدَتْ أعمارنا يده

    فما نفكرُ في حكمِ المواليد

    The one whose hand made our lives happy

    That we think not of the rule of successors

  12. ملكٌ إذا تليت أوصاف سؤددهِ

    ألقى السراة إليها بالمقاليد

    A king whose attributes of leadership were recited

    Threw reigns to it through saying

  13. ذو العلم قلدَ طلاب الهدى منناً

    حتى وصفناه عن علم وتقليد

    The one of knowledge who gave students of guidance favors

    Until we described him in knowledge and following

  14. والجود راش ذوي الجدوى وطوقهم

    فما يزالون في سجع وتغريد

    And generosity that adorned and garlanded the deserving

    So they still sing and warble

  15. والجيشُ قد ألفتْ باليسر رايته

    تألف الطرف في مغراه بالسيد

    And the army whose banner it easily befriended

    As the gaze befriended its beloved in its chief

  16. يبدو وقد سخر الله العبادَ له

    فالطير والوحش في الآفاق والبيد

    He appears as if God made people subservient to him

    So the birds, beasts, horizons and deserts

  17. حتى يقول موَاليه وحاسده

    هذا ابن أيوب أم هذا ابن داود

    That his loyalists and enviers even say

    Is this son of Ayyub or is this son of Dawood

  18. لا تنكر المدحة الحسنى وقد قرنت

    بشاهدٍ من معاليه ومشهود

    Do not deny excellent praise when it is combined

    With a witness to his virtues and seen

  19. أغنى العفاة فلولا ناهيات تقًى

    أستغفر الله سموه بمعبود

    He enriched the destitute, if not for scruples of piety

    I seek God's forgiveness, they would have worshipped him

  20. وَواصلَ الحرب حتى كل معركة

    كأنها بيتُ معنًى ذات ترديد

    And he continued war until each battle

    Was like a house of meaning with chanting

  21. يهوى الرماح قدوداً ذات منعطف

    والمرهفات خدوداً ذات توريد

    Spears plunge straight like bending twigs

    And sharp swords slash like undulating cheeks

  22. إذا انتشى من دم الأوداج صارمه

    رمى العدى بشديد السطو عربيد

    When his blade drips with blood of vitals

    He throws the enemy violently like a snarling lion

  23. وإن أفاض حديثاً أو نوال يدٍ

    وردْت من حالتيه غير مورود

    And if he utters a discourse or extends a hand

    Jewels emerge unlike any described, unlimited

  24. جواهراً لا يحد الوصف غايتها

    فاعجب لجوهرِ شيءٍ غير محدود

    And gifts which his habit is to give freely from a generous hand

    But they are hands of begetting

  25. وأنعماً دأبها إسداءُ بكر يدٍ

    لكنهنَّ أيادٍ ذاتُ توليد

    If the sea had cliffs, it would overflow

    The face of the land with its precious unfettered pearls

  26. لو أنَّ للبحر جدواه لفاض على

    وجه الثرى بنفيس الدرّ منضود

    And if he passed his hand over barren plateau

    Grass would sprout from it, every solidity dissolving

  27. ولو أمرّ على صلد الصفا يدهُ

    لأنبت العشبَ منها كلّ جلمود

    How excellent is the king flowing with traits

    Watered and conveyed from his forefathers, the hunters

  28. يا حبَّذا الملكُ الساري على شيم

    تروى وتنقل عن آبائه الصيد

    I brought close to the fire of my thought a kindling of his inspiration

    When praising, and the scent of aloeswood diffused

  29. أدنيت من نارِ فكري عودَ مبعثه

    عند الثناء ففاحت نفحة العود

    What a pillar of support for one whose desire extends

    So he stretches toward meeting it, a gaze extending

  30. نعم العمادُ لراجٍ مدّ رغبته

    فمد نحو لقاها طرف معمود

    I set out in my late master’s abodes

    Then turned back while my state is enviable

  31. يممت في حال مرحوم منازله

    ثم انثنيت وحالي حال محسود

    And I went on to convey Ayyub’s favors

    Toward prayers, so listen to my supplication and affirmation

  32. ورحت أنقل عن أيوب أنعمه

    نحو الصّلات فمن عطف وتوكيد

    If you wish, look into the prime of life like rainfall

    Look to the extending of his hands in my songs

  33. إن شئت تنظرُ في زهر الربى مطراً

    فانظرْ نوالَ يديهِ في أناشيدي

    And if you want real conversation

    Then hurry to my support and listen to my dependencies

  34. وإن أردت عياناً أو محادثة

    فاهرع إلى سندي واسمع أسانيدي

    O you who wore the words and softness of his palms

    The adornment of the virtue of renewal

  35. يا من تحليت من ألفاظه وندى

    كفَّيه حلية فضل ذات تجديد

    If your words are like earrings in my ears

    Then your generosity is like necklaces at my throat

  36. إن كان لفظك مثل القرط في أذني

    فإنَّ جدواك مثلُ العقد في جيدي
