1. إليكَ مديرَ الكأسِ عنيَ إنني

    رأيت دموع الخوف تقطع للصدى

    To you, the cupbearer, from me if I am

    Seeing tears of fear cutting through the echo

  2. وإياك باللمياء يشرقُ خدَّها

    فإنيَ لم آنس على ناره هدى

    And beware of the radiant cheek it rises from

    For I have not found guidance in its fire

  3. نزعتُ فلا الساقي لديّ براكعٍ

    وليستْ أباريقُ المدامةِ سجدا

    I have taken away so no worshipper remains with me

    And the wine jugs are not bowing down

  4. وما أنا بالساعي لمحراب طرَّةٍ

    على طلعةٍ كانت لعشقيَ مشهدا

    And I am not seeking the prayer niche of a tavern

    That was once a shrine for my love

  5. كفى ما استبنت اليوم لي من جرائمٍ

    إذا لم أبدِّلها فيا خجلي غدا

    Enough of the crimes I discerned today

    That if I do not change tomorrow, what disgrace!

  6. إلهيَ قد مدَّ الرجا يدَ قاصدٍ

    وَجودُكَ أولى أن تبلغه يدا

    My God has extended the hand of hope

    And your generosity is best to reach it

  7. وقدَّمت آباءً ونسلاً فكيف لي

    بباقيةٍ والأصلُ والفرعُ قد غدا

    I have offered fathers and offspring so how can I

    With anything left when the origin and branches are gone

  8. وفاضَ وليٌّ من دموعي فعله

    يكونُ وليًّا للإنابةِ مرشدا

    Generous tears have overflowed from me doing

    What will guide repentance

  9. بروحي إناساً قبلنا قد تقدموا

    ونادوا بنا لو أننا نسمع النِّدا

    By my soul, people before us have gone ahead

    And called us if only we could hear the call

  10. وسارت بهم سيرَ المطيّ نعوشهم

    وبعض أنين القادمين لهم حدا

    Their bodies traveled the path of the mounted

    And some moaning of those arriving was their limit

  11. وأمسوا على البيداء ينتظروننا

    إلى سفرٍ يقضي بأن نتزوَّدا

    They camped in the desert waiting for us

    For a journey that decides we must provision

  12. فريدون في أجداثهم بفعالهم

    وكم منهمُ من ساقَ جنداً مجنَّدا

    Fereydun in their deeds with his actions

    And how many of them led a mobilized army

  13. تساوَوْا عِدًى تحت الثرى وأحبةً

    فلا فرق ما بين الأحبة والعدى

    They equaled in number, under the soil both enemy and loved ones

    So no difference between the loved ones and the enemies

  14. سل الدهرَ هل أعفى من الموت شائباً

    غداةَ أدارَ الكأس أم ردّ أمردا

    Ask time, did it spare anyone with grey hair

    The morning it turned the cup or refused again

  15. وهل أبقت الأيامُ للعلم والعلى

    وبذل الندى ذاكَ المليكَ المؤيدا

    And did the days leave for knowledge and the sublime

    And generosity that victorious king

  16. وهل تركت للسؤدد ابن عليّه

    وهل قبلت منا الفِدى لأبي الفِدا

    And did it leave for the son of Ali

    And did it accept ransom from us for the ransom giver

  17. غياث الورى يومي رجاً ومخافةً

    شهاب العلى نجم الهدى كوكب الندى

    Succor of the world, my hope and fear

    Flame of the sublime, star of guidance, planet of dew

  18. ألا في سبيل الله نصل عزائم

    وعلم غدا في باطن الأرضِ مغمدا

    Come, in the way of God we determination our minds

    And tomorrow knowledge in the belly of the earth lies sheathed

  19. على الرّغمِ منا أنْ خبا منه رونقٌ

    وجاوَبنا من حولِ تربتهِ الصّدى

    Despite our death its splendor wanes

    And the echo around his dust answers us

  20. غنينا زماناً في ظلالِ نواله

    فلله ما أغنى زماناً وأرْغدا

    We sang for an age in the shade of his access

    But for how long did that age enrich and satisfy

  21. نزورُ حمًى ما لامسَ الخطبُ جارَه

    ونجني عطاً ما رَدَّ من لامسٍ يدا

    We visit a protector whose affliction neighbors him

    And reap gifts from one whose hand touched another

  22. ونمدح معتاد المديح وإنما

    لكل امرئٍ من دهره ما تعودا

    And we praise the accustomed praise though

    To each their share of time as accustomed

  23. إلى أن قضى الدنيا سعيداً مؤملاً

    وعاد إلى الأخرى شهيداً ممجدا

    Until it fulfills its happy hopeful end

    And returns to the next a martyr glorified

  24. وخلّف إسماعيل أركانَ بيته

    مؤسسةً يدعو إليها محمدا

    Leaving Ismail's pillars for his house

    A foundation inviting to it Muhammad

  25. مليكٌ حوى في الملكِ أفضل وصفه

    فيا حبَّذا نعتاً ونفساً ومحتدا

    A king containing in his reign his finest qualities

    So excellent the attribution, self, and purpose

  26. له همةٌ توَّاقةٌ شادَويةٌ

    إذا صعدت تاقت لأشرف مصعدا

    He has an aspiring, lofty, determined resolve

    That if it ascends, aspires to the most sublime ascent

  27. إذا بلغت في الملك دار نعيمه

    أبى عزمه إلا النعيم مخلَّدا

    If it reaches the abode of bliss in his reign

    His determination refused but eternal bliss

  28. فكم هاجدٍ تحت الثرى ومحمدٌ

    أخو الملك أمسى ساهداً متهجدا

    While Muhammad, brother of the king, lies awake

    So many worshippers beneath the soil have slept

  29. تزَهَّد حيثُ العمرُ والملكُ مقبلٌ

    وقد قلّ من لاقاهما متزهدا

    Renouncing life when reign and rule face him

    While few renounce when encountering both

  30. فديناهُ مهدياً لحالٍ رشيدةٍ

    وقلّ لذاك الفضل بالأنفسِ الفدى

    We gave him ruling a righteous state

    But that superiority with souls as ransom is little

  31. رعى ليَ في الملكِ المؤيد ذمةً

    ولم ينس لي فيه قصيداً ومقصدا

    He minded me in the victorious reign an alliance

    And did not forget a poem or purpose for me

  32. وأشهدني عهدَ الشهيدِ بأنعمٍ

    أبى عطفها أن لا يكون مؤكدا

    And witnessed me the martyr's covenant with favors

    Whose kindness refused not to be binding

  33. أيا ملكاً ندعوه للسلمِ والوغى

    وللدين والدّنيا وللجدِّ والجدا

    O king we invoke for peace and war

    And for religion, life, valor, and bounty

  34. أيا سالكَ التقوى طريقاً منيرةً

    ويا بانيَ المعروف حصناً مشيدا

    O you who tread the illuminated path of piety

    And build the fortress of kindness with foundation

  35. ويا واضعاً في كفهِ السيف لم يضر

    علاه بوضع السيف في موضع الندى

    O you who placed the sword in your hand without harm

    Did prominence place the sword where is gentleness?

  36. على أبركِ الأوقاتِ تسري لمقصدٍ

    وترجع موفور العلى متزيدا

    At the most blessed times you set out for purpose

    And return with increasing eminence

  37. عوائدُ لطفِ الله فيكَ جميلةٌ

    فلا تدفع الرجوى ولا تحذر العدى

    The returns of God's grace upon you are beautiful

    So do not dismiss hope or dread harm

  38. فكم سرتَ محمودَ المسيرِ مهنأً

    وعدتَ فكان العودُ أهنى وأحمدا

    How often you went praised in your journey

    And returned with the return happier and more praiseworthy
