1. ومهابة ذابت لها الفرسان ذوْ

    ب مدامع فلأجل ذا تتفطر

    The cavaliers have melted for her in love

    With tears flowing for her sake and hearts aching

  2. وخلائق كالراح إلاَّ أنها

    أصفى من الماء القراح وأطهر

    And traits like the soft breeze, yet purer

    Than the drizzling rain and more virtuous

  3. وحباء ميمون النقيبة ماهر

    بشراً يكاد من النضارة يقطر

    And coquetry, auspicious and skillful

    A person whose freshness seems to drip

  4. وأنامل قد سخرت نفحاتها

    لذوي الرجا إن السحاب مسخر

    And fingers that have harnessed their breaths

    For those hopeful, for the clouds are subservient

  5. وفضائل مثل العرائس تجتلى

    فلذاك في أفكاره تتخطَّر

    And virtues appear like brides

    So thoughts in his mind are provoked

  6. ويراعة حسد السلاح مضاءها

    في كلِّ ما تنهى به أو تأمر

    And gracefulness that makes swords envious

    Of all she does or commands

  7. فلذاك من حنق يعبس أبيضٌ

    في غمده الملقى ويرعد أسمر

    So one scowls in anger, white in his sheath

    And another darkly thunders

  8. غاص البحار بها وطار إلى السما

    فالدرّ ينظم والكواكب تنثر

    She dove in seas and flew to the sky

    So pearls are strung and stars scattered

  9. يا ابن الكرام هدوا وحاموا واعتلوا

    وتكرَّموا فهمو نجومٌ تزهر

    O son of nobles, be gentle, protective and lofty

    Be generous, for you are blossoming stars

  10. ومضوا كما يمضي الغمام وخلفوا

    عبقاً كما ينشي الربيع وينشر

    They went like passing clouds, leaving behind

    A fragrance, as spring arrives and spreads

  11. يا من إذا الأيام أذنبَ خطبها

    جاءت ببسط يمينه تستغفر

    O you, if days make mistakes

    They come repenting to your outstretched hand

  12. حاشاك تغفل عن وليٍّ ودّه

    صافٍ ولكن عيشه متكدّر

    Far from you to neglect a loyal friend

    Whose love is pure, though life troubled

  13. يستعبد النعمى لمجدك رقّه

    ومديحه المشهور فيكَ محرَّر

    He enslaves talents for your glory

    And his famed praise of you flows freely

  14. مدح يجرُّ على جرير ذيله

    متكبِّراً ويقل عنه كثير

    Praise that trails its train behind Jarir

    Arrogantly, with many falling short of it

  15. حظٌّ توعَّرت المسالك نحوه

    فإذا جريتُ وراءه أتعثر

    A fortune whose paths to it were rugged

    So when I stride toward it, I stumble

  16. حتَّى إذا وجهت نحوك رغبة

    سهل الطريق وأمكن المتعذّّر

    Until I turn my hopes toward you

    The road is smooth, the impossible accessible

  17. لا زلتَ مقصود الهبات ممتعاً

    بالعمرِ تبني المكرمات وتعمر

    You remain the delightful goal of gifts

    With life you build generosities and prosper

  18. ذكر الغمام بجود كفّك ذاكر

    والشيء بالشيء المناسب يذكر

    The clouds remember your generous palm

    And like remembers like
