1. صيرت نومي مثل عطفك نافرا

    وتركت عزمي مثل جفنك فاترا

    My sleep has become averse like your side,

    And I left my determination like your eyelid languid.

  2. وسكنت قلباً طار فيك مسرةً

    أرأيت وكراً قطّ أصبح طائرا

    And I settled a heart that flew in you happily,

    Have you ever seen a wolf's den become a bird?

  3. يا مخرباً ربع السلوّ جعلتني

    أدعى بأنساب الصبابة عامرا

    O you who destroy the dwellings of encampment, you made me

    Claim to be from the tribes of Al-Sababah populated.

  4. ويطيع قلبي حكم لحظك في الهوى

    يا للكليم غدا يطيع السَّاحرا

    And my heart obeys the rule of your glance in love,

    O how the bewitched became obedient to the sorcerer.

  5. رفقاً بقلبٍ في الصبابة والأسى

    صيرته مثلاً فأصبح سائرا

    Be gentle with a heart among youth and sorrow

    You made it an example so it kept going.

  6. ومسهدٍ يشكو القتار دموعه

    مما سلكْنَ على هواك محاجرا

    And a pillow complaining the shedding of its tears

    From what paths it took for your love uneven.

  7. ما بالُ مقلتك الضعيفة لم تزل

    وسنا وطرفي ليس يبرح ساهرا

    Why have your weak eyelids not stopped

    While my tooth and eyelids do not cease being awake.

  8. خلقت بلا شك لأخلاق الأسى

    ويد المؤيد للنوال بلا مرا

    You were created without doubt for the ethics of sorrow

    And the aid of the gift-giver without stop.

  9. من مبلغ الملك المؤيد أنني

    لولاه ما سميت نفسي شاعرا

    From the envoy of the King al-Mu'ayyad I am

    If it were not for him I wouldn't call myself a poet.

  10. وحلفت لم أمدح سواه لرغبةٍ

    لكنني جرَّبت فيه الخاطرا

    And I swore I wouldn't praise anyone else out of desire

    But I tried in him the idea.

  11. ملك ابن أيوب الثناءَ بنائلٍ

    أضحى على حمل المغارم صابرا

    The praise of the son of Ayyub with floods

    That carried the burdens of passions patiently.

  12. وتملكته سماحةٌ وحماسةٌ

    جعلا له في كلِّ نادٍ ذاكرا

    And he was possessed by generosity and zeal

    That made him in every club remembered.

  13. وإذا سخا ملأ الدِّيارَ عوارفاً

    وإذا غزا ملأَ القفار عساكرا

    And if he was generous he filled the lands with favors

    And if he fought he filled the deserts with soldiers.

  14. وإذا سطا جعلَ الحديد قلائداً

    وإذا عفى جعل الحديد جواهرا

    And if he was just he made iron necklaces

    And if he pardoned he made iron gems.

  15. بينا الأسير لديه راكب أدهمٍ

    حتى غدا بالعفو أدهم ضامر

    While the captive with him rides the reddish dark horse

    Until with pardon the reddish dark faded.

  16. تمحو ظلام الليل بيضُ سيوفه

    مذ قيل إنَّ الليل يسمى كافرا

    It wipes out the darkness of night with the whiteness of his swords

    Since it was said that the night is called an infidel.

  17. وتتابع المنن التي ما عيبها

    إلا رجوع الوصفِ عنها قاصرا

    And the succession of favors whose fault is

    Only the description's inability to match it.

  18. يا ابن الملوك المالئين فجاجها

    مدَحاً منظّمةَ الحلى ومآثرا

    O son of kings filling it, his raids

    Praise composed jewelry and great deeds.

  19. من كل ذي عرض يصفى جوهراً

    فاعجب لأعراض تكون جواهرا

    From everything with honor he extracts a gem

    So wonder at signs that become gems.

  20. شكراً لشخصك ما أسير ممدحاً

    وأعز منتصراً وأحلم قادرا

    Thanks to you what captive have I praised

    And what victor have I made mighty and what ruler forgiving.

  21. حملتني النعمى إلى أن لم أبن

    من تغلبنَّ أشاكياً أم شاكرا

    Goodness carried me until I did not know

    Whether those who conquered me were complaining or thankful.

  22. ونعم شكرتُ مواهباً لكَ حلوةً

    حتى شققت من العداة مرائرا

    And yes I thanked the sweet gifts to you

    Until I tore the mouths of enemies apart.

  23. لا غرْوَ إن عمرَ البيوتَ معانياً

    عافٍ عمرت له البيوتَ ذخائرا

    No wonder if it inhabited homes with meanings

    A life that inhabited homes with treasures.

  24. بكرت عليك سعادةٌ أبديةٌ

    وبقيت منصورَ العزائم ظافرا

    For you dawned an eternal happiness

    And you remained victorious in your resolves.
