ومصاحب تلقاه عند عيوبه

خلداً بلا بصرٍ به يتبينُ

And a companion you find with his flaws

Immortal without sight to discern him

فإذا بدا عيب الصديق وجدته

فهداً جميع الجسم منه أعينُ

So when a friend’s fault appears you see him

As a gift, his whole body to you is eyes

يا رُبَّ لصٍّ ناهبٍ

وهو من الحسن ملء عيني

O Lord, a thief plundering

While with beauty filling my eyes

يرنو إلى سرب الظبا لحظه

فيسرق الكحل من العين

Glancing at the gazelle herd his gaze

Steals the kohl from the eye
