جاءَ هلال العام عام الهنا

مبشِّراً إذ قدم الصاحب

The new year's crescent moon arrived

Announcing as our friend set foot

فقلتُ إذ شبهته حاجباً

في حالتيهِ هكذا الواجب

I said, resembling an eyebrow

In both states this is what's required

وزيرنا الأول لكنَّه

جاءَ وفي خدمتِه حاجب

Our prime minister, yet with him

Came an attendant in his service
