    نفحةً من بعد نفحه

    Welcome to poetry's rhythm

    A breeze after breeze

  2. من بياضٍ باكرتها

    سحراً بالسفحِ سفحه

    From an early dawn whiteness

    Charmed on the hill's slope

  3. ولآلٍ نظمتها

    بركات ضمن سبحه

    For a tune I composed

    Blessings within a rosary

  4. وعروس جعلت لي

    من بياض الوصل صبحه

    And a bride I made for myself

    From the whiteness of union, her dawn

  5. مع أني عاجزٌ عن

    ضمةٍ دَعْ ذكرَ فتحه

    Despite my incapacity for

    An embrace - let mention of its opening go

  6. كنت في الشعر جوادا

    يحرز السبق بلمحه

    I was in poetry a steed

    That gains the lead in a blink

  7. فثناني العسر والأو

    لاد لا أملكُ فسحه

    But hardship and children weakened me

    I no longer have any leeway

  8. كلّ إبن لي وبنت

    كشكال لي وشبحه

    Each son and daughter of mine

    Are like my images and ghosts

  9. وزناد القول لا يس

    مح في وجهي بقدحه

    The arrows of words don't

    Touch my face with their cups

  10. ودعائي بك عن قا

    فية يغني وصدحه

    And my prayers to you beyond

    The horizon satisfy and make joyful

  11. خذ صفاء الود كاسا

    تٍ وفيها ألف صحه

    Take the purity of love as a cup

    In it a thousand salutations

  12. واحتملني إن تحالي

    تُ وأغربتُ بمُلحَه

    And bear me if I play hard to get

    And act strangers with its salt

  13. سيدي ما في النوى وال

    قرب للمشتاق فرحه

    My lord, for the devoted lover

    There is no joy in closeness or distance

  14. إن تغب عني وإن تق

    دم فلي بالهجر قرحه

    If you are absent or approach, the separation has wounded me

    O most noble opening

  15. أيها الفتح المفدّى

    خفْ من العاتب فتحه

    Be gentle with the reproacher and his opening
