1. ما الرّاحُ إلّا رَوْحُ كلِّ حَزينِ

    فأزِلْ بخَمْرَتِها خُمارَ البينِ

    The breeze is but the soul of every sorrowful one,

    So lift with it the veil of separation.

  2. واِستَجْلِها مثلَ العَروس توقّدَتْ

    بعُقودِها وتخلْخَلَتْ بِبُرينِ

    Seek refuge in it as a bride kindled

    With her necklaces and shaken by incense.

  3. واِقْطِفْ بثغرِك وَرْدَ وَجنَتِها على

    خدِّ الشقيقِ ومَبسمِ النِسرينِ

    And pluck with your lips a rose from its garden upon

    The cheek of the basil and smile of the saplings.

  4. واِلثِم عَقيقةَ مِرشَفَيْها راشِفاً

    منها ثَنايا اللؤلُؤِ المَكنونِ

    And kiss the ruby of its cheeks intimately,

    From it the folds of hidden pearls.

  5. روحٌ إذا في فيكَ غابَتْ شمسُها

    بزَغَتْ منَ الخدّينِ والعَينينِ

    A spirit, when it hides in you its sun rises,

    From the cheeks and eyes.

  6. قبَسٌ يُغالِطُنا الدُجى رأدَ الضُحى

    فيها ويَصدقُ كاذِبُ الفَجْرَينِ

    An ember that tricks the darkness - the morning radiance is in it

    And it makes credible the liar of the two dawns.

  7. ما زفّها السّاقي بطائرِ فضّةٍ

    إلّا وحلّقَ واقِعَ النّسْرَيْنِ

    It wasn’t served by the cupbearer in a bird made of silver

    Except it hovered fallen upon the two eagles.

  8. حاكَتْ زُجاجةُ كأسِها القنديلَ إذ

    مِشكاتُها اِتّقدَتْ بلا زَيتونِ

    Its glass carved the lantern when

    Its perfumes were lit without olive oil.

  9. تبدو فيبدو الأفْقُ خدَّ عشيقةٍ

    واللّيل لمّة عاشقٍ مَفتونِ

    The horizon appears then appears as the cheek of a beloved

    And the night a confused lover's turban.

  10. مبنيّةٌ بفَمِ النّزيفِ مَذاقُها

    كرُضابِ لَيلى في فم المجنونِ

    Built by the mouth of dripping its taste

    Is like Layla's saliva in Majnun's mouth.

  11. بِكرٌ إذا ما الماءُ أذهبَ بَرْدَها

    صاغَ الحُبابُ لها سِوارَ لُجينِ

    A virgin, when the water takes away its coolness

    Dew shapes for it a bracelet of pearls.

  12. لو كان في حوضِ الغمام محلُّها

    لجرى العقيقُ من السحابِ الجونِ

    If its place was in the cloud basin

    Ruby would flow from the soft cloud.

  13. أو لو أُريقَتْ فوقَ يَذبُلَ جرعةٌ

    منها لأصبحَ معدِنَ الراهونِ

    Or if spilt above, a sip would wither -

    It would become the source of stirring.

  14. ومُضارِعٍ للبَدرِ ماضٍ لحظُه

    متستّرٌ فيه ضَميرُ فُنونِ

    Rivaling the full moon, lasting is its moment

    In it concealed the conscience of arts.

  15. رشأٌ غدَتْ حركاتُ كَسرِ جُفونِه

    تَبني على فتحِ السُهادِ جُفوني

    A drink whose movements of breaking its eyelids

    Builds upon the opening of cheeks my eyelids.

  16. روحي له وقْفٌ وألْفُ يَمينِه الْ

    مَمْدود مَقصورٌ عليه حَنيني

    My soul belongs to it and a thousand oaths -

    My outstretched longing restricted to it my yearning.

  17. مهموزُ صُدغٍ كم صحيحِ جوىً غدا

    بلَفيفِه يَشكو اِعتِلال العينِ

    Crooked chin - how much correct passion did it become

    By its twistedness complaining the sickness of the eye.

  18. متفقّهٌ بوِصالِه متوقّفٌ

    ويرى القطيعةَ من أصولِ الدينِ

    Learned in its connection, paused

    And sees separation from the origins of religion.

  19. رُؤياهُ مِفتاحُ الجمال وخَصرُهُ

    تلخيصُ شرحِ مطوّلِ التّحسينِ

    Its vision is the key of beauty and its waist

    Is the summary of explaining beauty.

  20. حيّا بزَورَتِه خُلاصةَ صُحبةٍ

    وبَدا فأبرزَ مَشرِقَ الشمسينِ

    It greeted with its blossoms the essence of companionship

    And so appeared the magnificent two suns.

  21. واِفتَرَّ مُحتسياً لها فأبانَ عن

    بَرقَينِ مُبتسمين عن سِمطينِ

    It pretended to long for it, so showed

    Two smiling lightnings about two lofty palms.

  22. وشَدا وطافَ بها فأحيا ميّتَ الْ

    عُشاقِ في راحَين بل روحَينِ

    It pulled and roamed with it, so revived the dead

    Lovers in two spirits, rather two souls.

  23. مَنْ لي بوصلِ مَهاةِ خِدرٍ فارَقَتْ

    عيني وظبيٍ أفْلَتَتْهُ يَميني

    Who can I ask to reconnect with the erased love

    That left my eye and escaped my right hand?

  24. للّهِ أيّامُ الوِصالِ وحبّذا

    ساعاتُ لهوٍ في رُبى يَبرينِ

    By God, the days of connection and bless

    The hours of playfulness in the meadows of aspens.

  25. مَغنىً بحبِّ الساكنين يَسوغُ لي

    نظْمُ النسيبِ ونثرُ دُرّ شُؤوني

    Singing the love of the dwellers allows me

    To compose subtlety and prose my concerns.

  26. لا زال يبتسمُ الأقاحُ به ولا

    برِحَ الشقيقُ مضرَّجَ الخدّينِ

    The colocynth still smiles at it and the wilted

    Basil hasn’t stopped blushing both cheeks.

  27. أحوى كأنّ مياههُ ريقُ الدُمى

    وهَواهُ أنفاسُ الحِسانِ العِينِ

    It inspires as if its waters are the spittle of sleepiness

    And its air the breaths of the beautiful eye.

  28. ضاهى عُيونَ الغانياتِ بنَرْجِسٍ

    وسَما على قاماتِها بغُصونِ

    It rivals the eyes of singers with narcissi

    And towers over their bodies with branches.

  29. فلكَمْ رشَفْتُ على زُمُرُّدِ رَوضِهِ

    زمَنَ الشّبابِ عقيقةَ الزّرجونِ

    So how often I peeked over the emerald of its meadow

    In days of youth ruby of little bells!

  30. وأمِنْتُ بأسَ النّائِباتِ كأنّما

    برَكاتُ أمسى كافلِي وضَميني

    And felt safe from the harms of fate as if

    The blessings of yesterday guarantee and ally me.

  31. سامي الحقيقة لا يحسُّ نزيلُه

    بحوادثِ التّقديرِ والتّكوينِ

    Lofty truth, its dweller doesn't feel

    The events of destiny and creation.

  32. بَشَرٌ يريكَ البحرَ تحت رِدائِه

    والبدرَ فوقَ سريرهِ المَوضونِ

    A human who shows you the sea beneath his gown

    And the moon atop his ornamented bed.

  33. غيثٌ بنوّارِ الشقيق إذا سَما

    تزهو رياضُ المُقتِر المَديونِ

    A rain whose light of the colocynth when it towers

    The gardens of the little debtor bloom.

  34. قاضٍ بأحكام الشريعة عالِمٌ

    بقواعدِ الإرشادِ والتبيينِ

    A judge of the rulings of Sharia, scholar

    Of the principles of guidance and clarification.

  35. عدلٌ تحكّم في البلاد فقامَ في

    مَفروضِ دينِ اللَّه والمَسنونِ

    Justice that governed the countries so stood up in

    The duties of God's religion and tradition.

  36. بلغَ الكمالَ وما تجاوزَ عُمرُه

    عشراً وحاز المُلْكَ بالعِشرينِ

    Reached perfection and his age didn't exceed

    Ten yet grasped kingship at twenty.

  37. خطبَ المعالي بالرِّماحِ فزُوّجَتْ

    بكرُ العُلا منه بلَيثِ عرينِ

    Sought the heights with spears so the virgin of heights

    Was married to him over any lowly burrow.

  38. تلْقى العِدا والوفْدُ منه إذا بدا

    تِيهَ العزيزِ وذلّةَ المِسكينِ

    The enemy and delegations if they appear

    Lost and humbled whether dignitary or lowly.

  39. سمْحٌ لمن طلبَ الإفادة باسطٌ

    ببنانِه وبيانهِ كنزَيْنِ

    Lenient to whoever seeks benefit, open handed

    With his fingers and his clear explanation treasure.

  40. ما مدَّ راحتَهُ وجادَ بعِلمِه

    إلّا اِلتقَطنا لُؤلُؤَ البَحرينِ

    He never extended his tranquility nor shared his knowledge

    Except we picked up the pearl of the two seas.

  41. لو بالبلاغةِ للنبوّةِ يدّعي

    لَغدا وما قُرآنُه بعِضينِ

    If in rhetoric he claims prophecy

    He would be without his Qur'an being deficient.

  42. من مَعشرٍ لهمُ على كلِّ الوَرى

    شرَفُ النجومِ على حصى الأرضينِ

    Of a people who over all creation

    Have the honor of stars over soil specks.

  43. سامٍ لمُنصُلِه وشِسْعَيْ نَعلِه

    فخرُ الهِلال ورِفعةُ الشّرطينِ

    Lofty, his banner's origin and strap of his slipper

    Is the pride of crescent and elevation of law.

  44. همسَتْ بأصوات الطُغاة فكاد أنْ

    لا يستهلَّ بهم لِسانُ جَنينِ

    They whispered with the voices of tyrants, almost

    Not inaugurated by them a fetal tongue.

  45. وتيقّنتْ بالثُّكلِ بيضُهمُ فلو

    قدرَتْ لما سمَحَتْ لهم ببَنينِ

    And were assured of bereavement - if they could

    They wouldn't allow them any sons.

  46. غضّتْ جلالتُه العيونَ وربّما

    نظرتْ إليه فحِرْنَ في أمرَينِ

    His majesty frowned and maybe

    Glanced at them angrily in hesitation.

  47. قبَسٌ جرى بيَدَيْهِ جدولُ صارمٍ

    وغَمامةٌ حملَتْ شِهابَ رُدَيْني

    An ember that flowed in his hands a brook of sharpness

    And a cloud that carried the flame of two quivers.

  48. عفُّ المآزِر كم ذُكورُ نِصالِه

    فيه اِستباحتْ من فُروجِ حُصونِ

    Many male swords - how often their edges

    Made permissible the penetrable fortresses.

  49. قَيلٌ يُصان لديه جوهرُ عِرضِه

    والجوهرُ العِرضيُّ غيرُ مَصونِ

    Sword that protects with it the essence of honor

    Yet the honorary essence remains protected.

  50. لو أنّ كعباً جاءَ يطلبُ ثأرَهُ

    لكَبا بسابقةٍ عِثارَ حَرونِ

    If Ka'b came seeking his revenge

    He would stumble hastily the stumbling of Haroun.

  51. يُمسي الفقيرُ إذا أتاه كأنّما

    غَصَبَ الغِنى من راحتَيْ قارونِ

    The poor person when he visits is as if

    He seized the wealth from the hands of Qarun.

  52. مَولىً يلوذُ المُذنِبونَ بعَفوِه

    ويفُكُّ قيدَ المُجْرمِ المَسجونِ

    A master whom the sinners seek refuge in his pardon

    And releases the shackle of the imprisoned convict.

  53. يا حاديَ العَشرِ العُقولِ وثاني الد

    دهرِ المَهولِ وثالث القمَرَينِ

    O guide of the decade’s minds, and second of

    The formidable age, and third of the two moons.

  54. والثابتَ المِغوارَ والقِرْنَ الّذي

    لا تستقرّ سُيوفُه بجُفونِ

    And permanent star, and horn that

    Swords do not settle in its eyelids.

  55. فلقد أنارَ اللَّه فيكَ نهارَنا

    وجَلا الظلامَ بوجهِك المَيمونِ

    So God illuminated in you our day

    And shone away the darkness with your auspicious face.

  56. وكَسا بك الدنيا الجمالَ وزيّن ال

    أيّامَ من علياكَ في عِقدَيْنِ

    And robed the world beauty and adorned

    The days - atop you in the two decades.

  57. وأبانَ رُشدَ عِبادِه بك فاِهتدَوا

    بعد الضّلالِ بأوضحِ النّجدَينِ

    And clarified the guidance of His servants through you, so they are guided

    After misguidance, with the clearest path.

  58. فتهنَّ بالعيدِ المُبارك واِغتَنِمْ

    أجرَ الصيام وبهجةَ الفِطرَينِ

    So delight in the blessed Eid and gain

    The reward of fasting and joy of the two breaking fasts.

  59. واِلبَس جَلابيبَ العُلا وتدرّعِ الن

    نصْرَ العزيزَ وحلّةَ التّمكينِ

    And wear the robes of ascension and armor of

    Victory of the Almighty and raiment of enablement.

  60. واِستجلِ من فكري عَروساً ما لَها

    كُفُؤٌ سواكَ بسائِرِ الثَّقَلَيْنِ

    And seek from my thoughts a bride who has no

    Match but you among all creation.

  61. وأبيكَ يا مَنْ حُكِّمَتْ بيَمينه

    بيضُ العَطايا في رِقابِ العينِ

    And your father, O you whom the gifts are ruled

    By his right hand upon the necks of the eye.

  62. لولا حيا كفّيكَ ما حيّا الحَيا

    رَوضي ولا ساحَتْ بطاحُ مَعيني

    If not for your hands' shyness, life wouldn't have greeted

    My meadow, nor roamed upon my spring's expanse.

  63. كلّا ولا نِلتُ النّعيمَ ولا نجَتْ

    روحي العزيزةُ من عذابِ الهُونِ

    Never would I have attained bliss nor would

    My dear soul have been saved from the torment of mortification.

  64. بلغَتْ مدى الأقصى لديكَ مطالبي

    وأصابتِ الغرَضَ البَعيدَ ظُنوني

    My requests have reached with you their utmost extent

    And my speculations attained the distant purpose.

  65. لي في معانيكَ اِعتقادُ وِلاً فلَو

    كُشِفَ الغِطا ما اِزدادَ فيك يَقيني

    In your meanings I believe in loyalty - even if

    The cover was removed, my certainty in you wouldn't increase.
