كفيت خلاف الدهرِ يا واحد الورى

ووفقكَ المقدارُ فيما بهِ تقضي

You have defied the vicissitudes of time, O singular in the world,

And destiny has granted you success in your judgments,

وحاشا علاكم أن تميل نفوسكم

إلى جزعٍ يفضي إلى اللوم والخفضِ

Far be it from you that your souls should incline,

To despair leading to blame and disgrace,

بكم نتأسّى في الخطوب ونهتدي

إلى سنن المعروف والندب والفرضِ

Through you we find solace in tribulations and are guided,

To the exemplary traditions of benevolence and duty,

فكيف ظلامُ الحادثاتِ تحبّكم

وأنتم مصابيحُ الهدى أنجم الأرضِ

How can the darkness of events confound you,

When you are beacons of guidance, stars of the earth,

قتلتم بنات الدهر بالبأسِ والندى

فلا تجزعوا منهُ فذا سببُ البغضِ

You have slain the daughters of fate with valor and benevolence,

So do not grieve for it, for this is the cause of enmity,

لئن أثخنتكم بالجراح سهامهُ

فحسبكُم أن قد سلمتم على العرضِ

If its arrows have wounded you with injuries,

It is enough that your honor remains intact,
