1. The [glory] of humankind, a Haydari whose bounty embraces all;

    The dawn of guidance, Ali, possessor of dazzling eminence.

  2. The star Suha, his ranks celestial;

    Manifest in radiance, a luminary rising above Saturn.

  3. Earth’s lion, a flame—his fingertips rain down;

    A rain of bounty, a watering-place more delectable than honey.

  4. Splendor’s full moon, a horizon whose stars appear;

    The sun of the worlds, the dawn of a night of grave calamity.

  5. Lofty of summit, ascending, feared are the calamities he brings;

    The doom of foes, smiter of heads and crowns.

  6. A mountain of wisdom; his companion is at the treasury;

    A necklace of praise, an ornament to necks and realms.

  7. A master of hospitality, his shoulder the hand of Time’s blessing;

    Death’s fang, the appointed end in the form of a man.

  8. A garden in bloom, a watering-place whose waters are sweet;

    The soul of hopes, the wellspring of blessings and retainers.

  9. A flowing sea, bitter as colocynth, its honey-sweet water spat out;

    Quencher of thirst, bringing the slender, swaying spears to drink.

  10. A giver of gifts, his virtues are prophetic;

    Spacious of courtyard, a scion of the best of creation and messengers.

  11. A [bestower] of riches, a virtuous man whose bounties reach all;

    Chaste of cloak, of Ali’s line, pure in character.

  12. An age that has struck, a fate whose calamities have come round;

    Wealth’s treasure, a cave of safety for the fearful and trembling.
