Behold, every stay is bounded by departure,
and every life's flourishing ends in ruin.
Each is requited as he once dealt with others;
there lies the recompense, and there the reckoning.
So do not move your hand across my parchment
with anything that will not please the Record there.
For one day you will be requited for it,
though the hand that wrote it has become dust.
There is no fate but one of two:
either bliss or torment.
Your mercy, O You to whom belongs the reckoning;
and Your favor, O You to whom is the final return.
