In every club of yours is a garden of praise,

And in every cheek of yours is a stream of water.

And for every person is the trembling of the slender branch,

The hidden weeping and the moaning of the dove.

O rising of lights, in my eyes

Is sorrow for you like the origins of sighs.

And it is enough of sorrow that there is no ambassador between us

Who walks, and that there is no tryst for the meeting.

So why the pretentiousness in a time that stripped me

Of the garb of youth and the wiles of nobles?

I am bare except for the mask of gloominess

And adorned only with the jewels of weeping.

So if I pass by a place for youths

Or a picture of an empty house for a friend,

A tear flows in my eye for youth

Like a cloud that melted and blocked the sky.

And I raised my palm between a humble glance

With dewy lashes, and a prayer.

And I placed my cheek humbly in the dust

To summon mercy from the greens.

Swaying in pain for the death of a master

Who was foremost in the arena of nobility.

No - by Him to whom I tied my hands in sanctity

And hope with the ropes of inviolability and hope.

And I fell prostrate before him knowing that he

Is my treasure for the day of hardship and ease.

No hope swayed me, and doom has come

With the passing of my father, the remote abode,

Where the light of the shining one is extinguished

And the radiance of the brilliant one is masked.

And it is enough gloom that the hand of decay

Effaces the form of that beautiful one.

For we often took comfort in his shade,

Then found comfort in him with a melodious relaxation.

The splendor of geniality covered his light,

And it breathed into the faces of the sitters.

The clouds uncover before him as if he were

A moon rending the mantle of darkness.

I shared hardship with the most generous friend,

And he passed away, bending under the heaviest burdens,

Panting as the stricken she-camel pants in agony,

And moaning at times with the moan of the leaf.

Strange that it ignited an ember in a breast

And gushed forth from a cheek despite the water!

And if the two friends were seen together by us,

And your fame as a close and lofty friend suffices.

For we often gazed at the shining one,

Filling the onlooker of the lofty with beauty.

The bosom of the companion blossomed through us

As if we were, there, the necklace of the Pleiades.
