وَقَد غَشِيَ النَبتُ بَطحاءَهُ
كَبَدوِ العِذارِ بِخَدٍّ أَسيلِ
The grass has covered its plains
Like cheeks moist with flowing tears
وَقَد وَلَّتِ الشَمسُ مُحتَثَّةً
إِلى الغَربِ بِطَرفٍ كَحيلِ
And the sun has turned away hastily
To the west with a sleepy eye
كَأَنَّ سَناها عَلى نَهرِهِ
بَقايا نَجيعٍ بِسَيفٍ صَقيلِ
As if its teeth on the river
Are the remnants of an army with polished swords
