أَنعِم فَقَد هَبَّتِ النُعامى
وَنَبَّهَت ريحُها الخُزامى
The ostrich has been gracious and kind
And its scent awakened the sleepy minds
وَمِل إِلى أَيكَةٍ بِلَيلٍ
يَهفو اِهتِزازاً بِها قُدامى
It yearned for a tent in the dark of night
Swaying gently towards where my people recline
تَهُزُّ أَعطافَها القَوافي
لَها وَأَكوابُها النَدامى
It sways its branches, rhyming couplets
As though a grieving mother who pines
كَأَنَّ أُمّاً بِها رَؤوماً
تَحضُنُ مِن شَربِها يَتامى
Rocking orphaned children with tenderness
After they had drunk to the very last line
