فِتيَةٌ قَد قَطَعوا الدَه
رَ اِغتِباقاً وَاِصطِباحا
Young men who have spent their days
drinking at dusk and drinking at dawn;
يَحمِلونَ الرَاحَ بِالرا
حِ غُدوّاً وَرَواحا
they carry wine in the palm
morning and evening.
وَإِذا ما سُئِلوا الجو
دَ غَدا المالُ مُباحا
And when they are asked for generosity,
wealth at once becomes free for all;
وَإِذا قيلَ اِركَبوا قَد
غَلَبَ الجِدُّ المُزاحا
and when told, “Mount!”—already
earnestness has vanquished jest.
جَعَلوا الكاساتِ بيضاً
وَالرَياحينَ رِماحا
Their cups they make into gleaming swords,
and fragrant flowers into spears.
