سري وعقود الأفق منثالة النظمِ

فكانت يداً مشكورة ليد الحلمِ

My secret and the horizons' necklaces of prosody

Thus it was a thanked hand to the hand of dreams

اعزُّ وصالاً من سلوِ محبّه

وأخفقُ في صدر الليالي من النجم

I esteem the union more than the union of his love

And I fail in the chests of nights from the star

تثنى وامهى لحظة ضمن جفنه

ففاجأني بالرمح والسيف والسهم

He frowned and winked for an instant within his eyelid

So he surprised me with the spear, the sword and the arrow

وبتنا جميعاً في إزار من الدّجى

وبات ضجيعي في لثامٍ من اللثم

We all spent the night in a belt of darkness

And my bedfellow spent the night in a wrapping of kisses

يواصلني طيفاً ولا علمَ عنده

ويهجرني في يقظةٍ وعلى علم

He keeps company with me as a specter and he has no knowledge

And he abandons me in consciousness and knowingly

ضنينٌ على قلبي بصحّة وعده

جوادٌ بسقم المقلتين على جسمي

Sick with longing at his promise

Generous with the sickness of my eyelids on my body

جنى خده يجدي جناية طرفهِ

فطلعتهُ تصبي ومقلتهُ تصمي

The harvest of his cheek does the crime of his glance

So his rising makes me yearn and his setting makes me blind

مضاعفةٌ أجفانها شابَ ضعفها

سقامٌ به تشفي القلوبُ من السّقم

Doubled are his eyelids, youth doubled its weakness

A sickness with which hearts are healed from sickness

وبي جائرٌ في حكمهِ ولهي بهِ

ولولا الهوى ما شاقني جائر الحكم

And he wrongs me in his rule but I am infatuated with him

And had it not been for love, the unjust ruler would not have tortured me

إذا هز عطفيه وحطّ لثامه

فواخجلة الأغصان والقمر التمِ

When he shakes his shoulders and lowers his wrappings

The branches and the full moon are shy

أهيمُ إلى سالٍ وابكي صبابةً

بخالٍ وأشكو برح وجدي إلى خصمي

I rave to a departing one and I cry to one who abandoned me

I complain to one who is absent and plead my case to my adversary

فواطول أشواقي إلى الفارغ الحشا

ويا حرّ أنفاسي إلى البارد الظلم

So my longing is prolonged to the empty outdoors

And O hot sigh to the cold injustice!

إذا ما ظلام الليل حاول كتمه

وشى مبسمٌ يثني الظلام عن الكتم

When the darkness of night tries to conceal it

A smiling shine folds the darkness from concealment

ووجهٌ هو الإصباح يفعل في الدّجى

فعالَ صفيّ الدين في ظلم الظّلم

And a face that is the dawn that does in the darkness

The deed of sincere religion in the darkness of darkness

أبي الفتح منّاع الحمى باذل اللهى

فريد العلى معطي المنى اليقظ الشهم

My father Al-Fath the protector, the feverish devotee

Unique supreme, fulfiller of wishes, vigilant, valiant

هو الصاحب المحمود في كل حالةٍ

وكم صاحبٍ حاشاه وقفٌ على الذم

He is the praised companion in every state

And how many companions he has avoided and blamed!

يفلّ جيوش المحل جيشُ هباتهِ

ويخفق في ساحاته علمُ العلم

The armies of glory defeat his donation armies

And his flags flutter in its arenas

هو الماء خلقاً وهو إن هيج جذوةٌ

نسيم الصبا في لطفه دبل الحلم

He is water in creation, and if a spark aroused

The spring breeze in its subtlety folds dreams

هو الهازم الإعدام وهو جحافلٌ

ومنهزم الأفعال من واحد الإثم

He defeats adversities, and he is regiments

And the defeated deeds from the one injustice

ومنتصبٌ للجود ترفعه العلى

فيخفض رايات المناويه بالجزم

And the lofty erect for generosity elevate him

So he lowers the banners of the arrogant with determination

هنيْ منال الصفح والعفو والندى

مضيْ منار الهم والحزم والعزم

Bestow, the realm of forgiveness, pardon and dew

Walk, the minaret of anxiety, resolve and determination

يعف ولا خوفٌ عن الفحش والخنا

ويعفو ولا عجزٌ عن الذنب والجرم

He pardons and has no fear of obscenity and malice

And he forgives and has no inability for sin and crime

هو الجرب المرهوب أن حارب العدى

بآرائه وهو السلامة في السلم

He is awe-inspiring if he fought the enemies with his views

And he is safety in peace

فلا مسلمُ الداعي ولا عادل الظبى

ولا ممهل العادي ولا جائر القسم

So neither the petitioner of justice nor the equitable to the prey

Nor the procrastinator of the customary nor the unjust divider

يغر الأعادي لينه دون سطوه

كذا الشهد يخفي طعمه سورة السم

He fools the enemies with his softness without his might

Like honey hiding its flavor, the toxicity of poison

لقد أسمعت صم النفوس سيوفه

حديث المنايا عن جديس وعن طسم

Indeed, I heard the deaf souls his swords

The talk of death about the noble and base

وساس أمور الملك بعد إذالةٍ

فرفعها عن خطة الهون والوصم

And he directed the affairs of the kingdom after humiliation

So he raised it from the position of disgrace and stigma

وآمن من خوف وقرب من نوى

وسكن من سغب ومول من عدم

And he secured from fear and brought near those who intended

And settled those who raged and owned those from nothingness

وزير حمى قلب المواليه بأسه

فما تتسامى نحوه همه الهم

Minister protecting the hearts of loyalists with his might

So their worries do not rise towards him

فسطوته تخشى ونعماء ترتجى

وهمه تعلو وأنمله تهمى

For his supremacy is feared and his blessings hoped for

And his worries rise above and his palms withhold

لكل ولي جاد بعد وليها

ووسميها عم الطلى قبل بالوسم

For every loyal one who donated after his loyalty

And marked it the mother country before with a marking

عطاء بلا من يشوب صفاءه

وعز بلا كبر وحكم بلا ظلم

Giving without one who disturbs its purity

And glory without arrogance and rule without injustice

عليم بأسرار الزمان محدث

بما جلفي العلياء عن ذمة الفهم

Knowledgeable of the ages’ secrets speaking

Of what the brilliant missed about the conscience of comprehension

تفل شباه الغيب حدة فهمه

وتفهم نعماه مخاطبة الوهم

Subtleties of the unseen blunt the edge of his understanding

And his blessings are understood by addressing delusions

فليس نداه بالجهام تشبمه

ولا وجهه الوضاح بالعابس الجهم

So his equal is not with thoroughbreds that he straddles

Nor is his brilliant face with the scowling grim

كريم اذا استجدته هز عظمه

السماح كأن ربحته بابنة الكم

Generous when I asked him, he shook his bones

With gentleness as if I profited from him the daughter of loss

يفيدك ما يغني وليس بواعد

ويدرك ما عني وليس بمهتم

He benefits you what will make you rich and he is no mere wisher

And he achieves what is intended and is no busybody

فتى يضحك الجادي من الغي باس

م الندى ودموع الغيث دائمة السجم

A young man the serious laugh at his ignorance with

A softness and tears of rain pouring constantly

فأقسمت لا خلق يبيح الذي غدا

يبيح ولا يحمي من المجد ما يحمي

So I swore no manners permit what tomorrow permits

Nor protect from glory what it protects

لقد فغم الآفاق طبياً ثناؤه

وعم مع الأواء بالنائل الفعم

Indeed, his praise has eclipsed horizons as incense

And spread with atmospheres to the obtaining fragrant

من القوم كم جادوا وجدوا إلى العل

وسادوا وسدوا في الملمات من ثلم

Of the people how many donated and found the height

And prevailed and blocked in disasters from perforations

وحطوا على هضب السمك رحالهم

وحاطوا عقود المكرمات من الفصم

And landed on the plateau of sublimity their feet

And circled necklaces of nobilities from the chosen

أقاموا قناة المك بعد اعوجاجهم

نعم وثنوا صرف الليالي عن الغشم

They set up the conduit of glory after their crookedness

Yes, and twisted the course of nights from cheating

هم الوازعو إحداثها بصدرهم

وما حطمت فيه صدور القنا الصم

They are the deterrents bringing them about with their chests

And nor are chests of resolute men destroyed in them

كرام أهانوا المال بذلا فلم يبت

له طمع في عزة الخزن والختم

Generous ones who humiliated money by giving so it did not

Greed in the glory of treasure and seal

أولو العزة القعساء والهمم العلى

ذوو النسب الوضاح والأنف الشم

Possessors of lofty honor and high ambitions

Of clear lineage and prominent nose

أيا ابن علي ليس رجله

لذي فاقة في سائر العرب والعجم

Oh Ali's son, his foot is not

For one needy among all Arabs and non-Arabs

تواضعت تنفيذا لكل مهمة

ولو لم تواضع لم تكلم من العظم

I humbled myself to implement every mission

And had I not been humble, I would not have talked to the mighty

وبلغتني ما فات كل مؤمل

وزهدتني في كل ذي نائل جم

And I learned what every hopeful missed

And made me abstain from everyone with obtaining beauty

لقيت الورى والدهر باسمك فانثنى

وأصبح قدري فوق أقدارهم كاسمي

I met existence and fate with your name so it bent

And my destiny became above their destinies like my name

فمدح فصيح لا يدين بعجة

صليب القوافي لا يلين على العجم

So excellent praise not indebted to the shackles

Of rhyme, does not soften to the non-Arabs

وما مجد كم إلا سماء وانتم

بدور نواحها وأنجمها نظمي

And no glory but skies and you are

Its cycles, its stars my composition

هو الكلم المأثور كم لسهامه

وقد شددت في قلب شاني من كلم

It is the conserved word for you for its arrows

And it tightened in the heart of a praiser from every word

يؤم مغانيكم فيا فرحة العلى

ويعزى إلى فكري فيا خجلة اليم

It suits your pleasures so oh joy of glory

And is consoled to my thoughts oh shame of anxiety

سخي فنزه عن لئم محله

نتوج فرفعه عن الأنمل العقم

Generous so ascended from the obscenity of his location

Crowned so raised above the vile baseness

وما هولا نجل من أنت عزه

فلا قدحت في عزه ذلة اليتم

And what makes one agitated from the honor you are

So neither your honor's degrading nor orphanhood defamed it

وليس الغنى لا لقاؤك فليت

فتى مضمر لقياك منه على حتم

And wealth is not meeting you though would that

A young man intended meeting you from him assuredly

ومن قال إن الدهر تسمح نفسه

مثلك فهو المائن الكاذب الزعم

And who said time sympathy itself

Like you, he is the falsifying claimant
