بجدك أعطاف القنا تتعطف

وطرف الأعادي دون مجدك يطرف

With your virtue, the Nile's banks are gracious,

While without your glory, enemies glance and depart.

شهاب هدى في ظلمة الشك ثاقب

وسيف هدى في طاعة الله مرهف

A guiding star piercing the darkness of doubt,

And a sharp sword of God's obedience.

وقفت على حصن المخاض وإنه

لموقف حقاً لا يوازيه موقف

You stood at the fortress under construction, which

Is truly an unmatched stance.

فلم يبد وجه الأرض بل حال دونه

رجال كآساد الشرى وهي ترجف

The face of the earth did not appear, but men prevented it,

Like lions of evil, trembling.

وجرداء سلهوب ودرع مضاعف

وأبيض هندي ولدن مثقف

With bare swords and layered armor,

Indian blades and polished shields.

وما رجعت أعلامك الصفر ساعة

إلى أن غدت أكبادها السود ترجف

Your yellow flags did not return for an hour

Until their livers turned black with trembling.

كبا من أعليه صليب وبيعة

وساد به دين حنيف ومصحف

Drink from the one bearing the cross and pledge,

And through him the Hanif religion and scripture prevailed.

صليبة عباد الصليب ومنزل النزال

لقد غادرته وهو صفصف

The habitat of the crucifix's worshippers and place of descent—

You left it completely deserted.

أيسكن أوطان النبيين عصبة

تيمن لدى أيمانها وهي تحلف

Can the tribe who swears by its faith reside

In the lands of the prophets?

نصحتكم والنصح في الدين واجب

ذروا بيت يعقوب فقد جاء يوسف

I advised you, and advice in religion is a duty—

Leave the House of Jacob, for Joseph has arrived.
