كأنَّما الطَّلعُ إذا
لاح خلال السعفِ
As though the palm blossom, when
it appears amid the palm fronds,
خناجرٌ فوق أعا
ليها بقايا الكلف
were my daggers, upon whose upper
parts linger traces of dark mottling;
وهو إذا عاثت بهِ
يدُ الأكيلِ العنف
and, when it is ravaged by
the hand of the rough devourer,
سلاسلٌ من فضَّةٍ
في غلفٍ من صدف
were my chains of silver,
in sheaths of mother-of-pearl.
