1. أما واللّمى وجداً بساكنه الملا

    لقد ضاق باع الصبر أن أتجمّلا

    The eyes of the beholder and the beholder himself are infatuated with this charming abode

    Patience can no longer contain my overflowing tears

  2. إذ الحسن أعطاها من الأنفس المنى

    فما شأنُ أجلابِ القطيعة والقلا

    For beauty itself has granted it the wishes of souls

    So why do strangers and acquaintances avoid it?

  3. وفي شعب الأكوار كلُّ ابن لوعة

    إذا هاجها برد النسيم تململا

    In the valley the young gazelles

    Sway when gently touched by the breeze

  4. يشافه أذيالَ المروط وينثني

    فيلقي إليه نشرهُ ما تحمّلا

    With tails of palm leaves it welcomes

    Whatever heavy rain the clouds may hold

  5. أتبصرُ ناراً باليفاع كأنّما

    تسلُّ سناها هامةُ الطّود منصلاً

    Do you see a fire on the sand dunes

    Like a glowing blaze from the resin of perfumed wood?

  6. إذا ما علا أفرنده صدأ الدُّجى

    فأغمد لم يعدم من الريح صيقلا

    When the shadows of night start to descend

    And an unsheathed sword no longer needs sharpening

  7. وفي الحبِّ يا ذاتَ الوشاحين ذلَّة

    ومن لم يجد عزَّ السوّ تذلّلا

    In love, O you with two veils, is utter submission

    Those who cannot withstand passion will surrender

  8. أذاد كما شاءَ الدّلال فلا أرى

    لخدك روضاً أو بثغرك منهلا

    It leads wherever the guide pleases, I do not see

    In your meadows or lips a pasture or fountain

  9. وحّملتني ذنب الدموع ولم يكن

    بأوّل دمعٍ أو دم طلّهُ طلا

    You blamed me for my tears though initially

    I did not intend to cry nor intentionally spilled tears

  10. تنقّلتِ عن عهد الغواية والصبي

    ومن عادة الأقمار أن تتنقّلا

    You changed from the ways of temptation and coy play

    It is the nature of moons to change and turn

  11. وملتِ إلى الواشين غير ملومةٍ

    ومن يمنع الأغصانِ أن تتميّلا

    You inclined toward the slanderers without blame

    Who can prevent branches from swaying?

  12. أعاذلتي ما أفضح السقم واشياً

    وأفصح نمّاماً وأثقل محملا

    My jealousy did not publicly expose your illness

    Nor made it known by gossip or heavy implications

  13. تلومين في نعمٍ ونعمانَ ساهراً

    وقد نمت عن ليلٍ بنعمان أليلا

    You blame my blessings and the sleepless nights

    While you slept through a night of blessings and prosperity

  14. ولولا فراقُ المالكيةِ لم أكن

    لأبكي خليطاً خفَّ أو منزلاً خلا

    If not for parting from the Maliki tribe

    I would not weep over an abandoned camp or empty dwellings

  15. تمّلك قلبي وهو قفرٌ وآهلٌ

    وأطلق دمعي حالياً ومعطّلا

    You captured my heart vacant yet inhabited

    And released my involuntary and unemployed tears

  16. وكل هلاليّ يزيد طلاقةً

    على شدَّةٍ من دهرهِ وتهلّلا

    With every new crescent those tears flow more freely

    Despite the harshness and glittering stars of fate

  17. إذا هزّه داعي الوغى هزَّ صبوةً

    أفاض غديراً أو تقلد جدولا

    When stirred by the caller to passion it sways tipsily

    Pouring copiously or wearing a necklace of streams

  18. فقبّلها وجهاً من البيض أبلجاً

    وغازلها طرفاً من النَّقع أكحلا

    Kiss her visage whiter than white

    Woo her eyes darker than black

  19. فردْ ذابلاً من قبلِ وردٍ وروضةٍ

    فكلُّ ربيع بالأسنّة يجتلي

    Jasmine and gardens wilt out of jealousy

    For each springtime is adorned with loveliness

  20. إذا المجدُ لم تمرر قواه بمنعةٍ

    تداعتْ به أسبابهُ فتحلّلا

    When glory effortlessly overcomes prevention

    Its means crumble and dissolve

  21. وقالوا لقد غيثَ الحمى وهو مخصبٌ

    فما بال صبري كلّما غيث أمحلا

    They said, “The rain cloud has come to the feverish land”

    Why does my patience gather then always dissolve?

  22. لعلَّ أهاضيب الحيا تنقع الصدى

    وما شبَّ ومض بالجوانح يصطلي

    Perhaps the groves where gazelles gather mute the echo

    Nothing has kindled or sparked my soul

  23. سرى راكباً ظهر الغمام كرامةً

    فلما تراءى هضبُ نجد ترّجلا

    He rode the back of the clouds out of prestige

    When the hills of Nejd appeared he dismounted

  24. لأنطق أفواه المهاد بشكره

    وطوَّقَ أجياد النجاد وكلّلا

    I will give voice to the praise of the honored ones

    And crown the noble steeds and valorous heroes

  25. فهل نشرتْ نعماه برداً مفوّفاً

    وهل نثرت يمناهُ عقداً مفصّلا

    Has he spread his blessings like a well-wrapped coat?

    Or scattered his fortunes like a bejeweled necklace?

  26. طربتُ إليه حاملاً أثر النّدى

    وما صحّ من نقل السّماح وأرسلا

    I came to him carrying the mark of dew

    Conveying only the best of generosity he relayed

  27. يحدّث عن جود العزيز بن يوسف

    أن أنهلَّ أو عن بشرهِ إن تهلّلا

    Speaking of Judd Al Aziz bin Yusuf’s generosity

    Whether he smiles or from his good tidings exults
