أيا ابنَ الألى فرضوا المكرماتِ

في سننِ السننِ المخزيه

O son of the exalted, they imposed honors

In the traditions of the disgraceful traditions

لهم جمل الفضل عند العموم

وصاحبهم صاحب التجزيه

They have all the virtues in public

While their companion has the divisions

أراني عدمتك في المفرحات

فهلاَّ وجدتك في المرزيه

I missed you in the joys

If only I could find you in the funerals

فديتُ أياديكَ ما أن تصاب

لا في الهناء ولا التعزيه

I sacrifice my hands for you, so that you are not afflicted

Neither in prosperity nor in consolation

أجامعَ شمل المجد وهو مبدَّدٌ

ولم يكُ حلقٌ غيره جامعَ الشملِ

I gathered the glory that was scattered

And no other circle gathered the gathering

لئن غاب عنا يوسفُ الملك والعلى

لقد حلّ فينا يوسفُ الجود والفضل

If the king and the supreme Yusuf is absent from us

The Yusuf of generosity and virtue has settled among us

ولا ينكون مني المثول لحاجةٍ

فما شيمَ وجهُ السُّحب إلاَّ مع الحل

And I will not hesitate to ask for a need

As it is not proper for the face of clouds except with rain
