1. يا من تلوّنَ عهدهُ وتغيّرا

    ما كان حقُّ محبّكم أن يُهجرا

    O you whose pledge has changed and altered

    It was not right that your lover be abandoned

  2. لو أنَّ صدّكمُ تمثّل ليلةً

    لثنت غياهبها الخيالَ عن السّرى

    If your estrangement had pretended for a night

    Its darkness would have averted the hidden star

  3. ولئن غدرتَ فسنّةٌ مأثورةٌ

    ما حُلتَ عن شيمَ الليالي والورى

    And if you betrayed, it is an inherited tradition

    You did not refrain from the traits of nights and people

  4. غلبَ الهُيامُ عليه حتى أنّهُ

    وكفاك دلهاً لو وصلتَ لما درى

    Passion overcame him until he

    It was enough for him as evidence if you had reached, he would not have known

  5. فانقعْ بذكر الصبر حرَّ فؤاده

    أو لا فحدّث مقلتيه عن الكرى

    So soak the heat of his heart with the mention of patience

    Or else tell my eyelids about sleeplessness

  6. حجبوكَ بدراً في الهوادج طالعاً

    وثنوكَ ظبياً في الأكلّة أحورا

    They hid you like a full moon rising behind the curtains

    And likened you to a gazelle with curved horns

  7. ما هذه الغزلانَ بين كناسها

    لكنّها الأسد الضّواري والشّرى

    These are not gazelles between their fortresses

    Rather, they are ferocious lions and evildoers

  8. من كلّ ماضي اللّحظ زهّدِ قومه

    في البيض حتى أنّها ما تُشترى

    The people became disgusted with their past glances

    At the white coins that they are no longer bought

  9. لدنُ القوامِ رشيقهُ يُغني زعيمَ الحيِّ

    أن يدعو الوشيجَ الأسمرا

    The softness of the pillar gives joy to the chief of the living

    To call upon the dark knight

  10. بأبي وبي غضبانُ ما عاتبتهُ

    إلاّ نهيتُ عن النّقار الجؤاذرا

    By my father and mother, I was angry with him

    I only forbade him from the braying donkeys

  11. لو كنتَ شاهدَ ليلَ صُدغيه على

    وجناتهِ لرأيتَ ليلاً مُقمرا

    If you had witnessed the night on his cheeks

    And his gardens, you would have seen an illuminated night

  12. أسفي على وصلٍ عفتْ أيّامهُ

    وصفاءِ قرب بالعباد تكدّرا

    I grieve over a connection whose days are chaste

    And the clarity of proximity tainted by servants

  13. حكمَ الهوى أني أضلُّ فلا اهتدى

    وقضى الجمالُ بأنْ ينامَ وأسهرا

    Passion ruled that I go astray and not be guided

    And beauty decreed to sleep while I stay up

  14. ولربَّ ليلةٍ موعدٍ وافيتها

    لمّا ركبتُ لها الصباحَ الأشقرا

    And perhaps on an appointed night I met it

    When I rode the blonde morning

  15. واليومَ قد أضحى اللقاءُ كوعدهِ

    حُلماً وقد أمسى المزار مزوَّراً

    And today the meeting has become like its promise

    A dream, and the shrine has become fake

  16. يا سائقَ الأظعان تنتجع الحيا

    والعيسُ تنفحُ في الأزمّةِ والبرى

    O driver of misery, life is pleasant

    And the staff blooms in difficulties and wilderness

  17. يمّم ندى عبد الرحيم وظلّهِ

    فالصبحُ يعرفُ ضوءهُ من أبصرا

    The dew of Abdul Rahim and his shade aim

    So the morning recognizes its light from the observant

  18. تلقَ الجبين الصلتَ ابيض واضحاً

    طلقَ الأسرّة والجنابَ الخضرا

    It meets the forehead, pure and bright

    With loose hair and green temples

  19. فهناك لا ماءُ السماح بناضبٍ

    كلاَّ ولا كلاُّ الغنى متعذّرا

    For there is no scarce water of generosity

    No, the inaccessible wealth is not difficult

  20. في لفظةٍ منهُ تصادف منصلاً

    يجري على صرف القضاء إذا جرى

    In an utterance from him you come across a sword

    That flows according to the course of destiny when it flows

  21. يا خجلة الفصحاء من إعجازه

    بهرَ العقول وحقّهُ أن يبهرا

    O the eloquent’s shame from his miracle

    Dazzled minds and rightly so dazzles

  22. وسرى إلى العلياءِ حيث لو أنَّ

    طرف النجم سار وراءهُ لتعثّرا

    And it flowed to the supreme where if

    The edge of a star moved behind it, it would stumble

  23. يقظان ساس الملك نهباً شاغراً

    فثناهُ أحمى في الجفون من الكرى

    Awake, ruling the kingdom voraciously

    So he restrained it, hotter in the eyelids than amassing

  24. فالمجدُ مرفوع المنازل والسّنا

    والدين مشدود الأواخي والعُرى

    Thus glory has high ranks and distinction

    And religion has tense cords and firm pegs

  25. يُغضي عن اللذّات خيفةَ ربّهِ

    الله أكبرُ ما أعفَّ وأقدرا

    He overlooks pleasures fearing His Lord

    God is Greater, how virtuous and Capable

  26. ما من يقيس إليه خقاً مثلهُ

    إلا كمن قاس الوهاد إلى الذُّرى

    Who dares compare anyone to him

    Except one who compares seashells to pearls

  27. من أين للدنيا جوادٌ مثلهُ

    سمح الزمان بهِ وأصبح مُعسراً

    Where can the world find a steed like him

    The times were generous with him but became insolvent

  28. شُهرت مهابتهُ فقد أغنت سيوفَ

    الهند دون عُداتهِ أن تُشهرا

    His prestige made Indian swords dispensable

    To unsheathe their weapons

  29. فإذا تقدّم في العلاء مفاخراً

    عرف السِّماك محلّهُ فتأخرا

    So if he moves forward proudly

    The ceiling will know its place and move back

  30. هوَ مشرع الكرمِ الذي ما جئتهُ

    إلاَّ وانهلك الزّلال الكوثرا

    He is the spring of generosity, whenever I came to him

    I found flowing the heavenly Kauthar

  31. يعصى الملامة في السّماحة والنّدى

    من ذا يصدّ الغيث عن أن يُمطرا

    He violates blame in generosity and softness

    Who can stop rain from pouring

  32. ويضيءُ في الزمن البهيم فعالهُ

    والصبحُ ليس بمنكرٍ أن يسفرا

    And his actions shine in the animalistic times

    Is morning not allowed to dawn

  33. ألفَ التواضعَ في رفيعِ محلّهِ

    وكفاهُ كبرُ الشأن أن يتكبَّرا

    He mastered humility in his high status

    And his great status sufficed him to be arrogant

  34. ذو الرأي حتف الوهن تحت رويّةٍ

    أحيا بها رممَ العلوم وأنشرا

    A man of opinion, the weakness died under his calmness

    By which he rebuilt the edifice of knowledge and published

  35. وحزامةٍ أغنت عن الأشياع إذ

    مثلت لديهِ فوارساً وسنوّرا

    And a belt that made shields dispensable when

    It represented horsemen and swords for him

  36. أزكى الورى أصلاً وأطيبُ عنصراً

    وأجلُّ سابقةً وأكرمُ معشرا

    The purest lineage, finest origin

    Greatest predecessor and most generous company

  37. جادت سحابُ بنانهم غصنَ المنى

    الذاوي فأورق بالسماح وأثمرا

    The clouds of their shooting stars rained wishes granted

    So the generosity branch sprouted leaves and bore fruits

  38. إن تلقهم والأفقُ كابٍ لونهُ

    تلقَ الفضائل والفواضل والقِرى

    If you meet them and the horizon cloaks its colors

    You meet merits, transcendence and sanctuaries

  39. لُذ باليفاع إذا انتجعتَ أكفَّهم

    فالبحر لستَ تطيقهُ أن يزخرا

    Find pleasure in their palms if life gets pleasant

    The sea cannot bear to overflow

  40. الواهبون بكلَّ عامٍ أشهبٍ

    حُمرَ المطايا والعتاقَ الضُمَّرا

    Bestowers every departed year

    Red mounts and release the reprimanded

  41. غنيتْ مغاني الجود فهي أواهلٌ

    بهمِ وكان الجود ربعاً مُقفرا

    The songs of generosity became rich, it starts with them

    Generosity was an empty desert

  42. وحبوا صفاتهم البلادَ كأنما

    نثروا على الآفاق مسكاً أذفرا

    And they loved their qualities to the countries as though

    They had scattered musk over the horizons

  43. يا ابن الجبال إذا الحلومُ تهافتت

    وابن البحار ندى إذا قنط الثرى

    O son of mountains, when the brave panic

    And o son of seas, the supporter if the land becomes ungrateful

  44. مَنْ للكريم إذا انتحاهُ دهرُهُ

    ظلماً ومن للخطب غيرك عن عرا

    Who is for the generous if his times betray him

    Unjustly, and who is for disasters but you

  45. عاثت ذئاب القوم في سرحي ولولا

    أنت هاجوا عند ذاك غضنفرا

    The wolves of people wreaked havoc on my herd, and had it not been

    For you, they would have raged furiously

  46. ومن البليّة أن أضام بمن بهِ

    أزعُ العدى وعليه أثني الخنصرا

    The affliction is that I contend with whom

    I drive away the enemies and applaud him

  47. إن خاب ظنّي في الزمان وأعله

    فالطِرْف ليس ببدعةٍ أن يعثرا

    If my assumption of people betrayed me and transcended me

    The eye is not strange to stumble

  48. أو ينتصرْ لي فالسحاب إذا سقى

    أدنى وأيسرُ حقهِ أن يُشكرا

    Or he gains victory for me, so if clouds pour

    It is the least and easiest of its rights to be thanked

  49. فاكففْ ظلام الظُّلم عن ساحي

    فزندُ العدل ما بين الورى بك قدورى

    So spare me the darkness of injustice

    The weapon of justice lies in you

  50. فلا منحنَّك كل ناصعةٍ كأنَّ

    الحسنَ توَّجها النُّضارَ الأحمرا

  51. لطُفت فلو نطقتْ لكان كلامها

    سحراً ولو شُفيت لكانت مسكرا

  52. قمرٌ وأنت الشمسُ فامنح جرمهُ

    نوراً ليبدرَ في الأنام ويظهرا

  53. وخريدةٍ زُفَّتْ فأمهرها ولو

    سمعاً فليس تحِلُّ حتى تُمهرا

  54. قد طال ما أحيا حيا معروفك

    المعروفَ حيث أمات فينا المُنكرا

  55. لو املكُ الدنيا سمحتُ بها لمَن

    وأوفى بمقدمكَ السعيد مبشِّرا
