يا مليك الأكراد دعوةَ من
وافاك والعالمون صمٌّ سميعا
O King of the Kurds—a plea from one
who has come before you, while the world is deaf to hearing:
أنَّ جيش الشتاء يحتاج من
يلقاهُ درعاً من الثياب منيعا
Winter’s army—whoever goes to meet it needs
an impregnable shield of clothing.
ليس عندي فروٌ ولا لي تبنٌ
ذبتُ برداً وماتت الخيلُ جوعا
I have neither fur nor straw;
I have melted from cold, and the horses have died of hunger.
