May God [curse] a garden where I met hunger at dawn.
And no wonder—how often I have suffered because of a companion!
As though I were the slain man of al-Taff, of the house of Hashim,
And had been forcibly barred from sweet draughts.
So I obtained bread there only through an intercessor,
Nor water unless it came through a gatekeeper.
